I'm not particularly knowledgeable here, but we don't necessarily need to overclock it to 4.5 for a major performance spike, right? The current one runs at, what, 3.3 or something like that? If it can overclock 1.5 beyond the stock speed and still run decently then doing something less stressful is still a very significant improvement, yes?

The processor is a monster, yeah, but for a FL server, a CPU with 3,2GHz is better, than a dual-core 3,0GHz simply because flserver cant use more cores... Thats the reason for trying to reach 4,5, isnt it? Or am I wrong?
Heh, we don't need overclocking? Guys, you really don't know what you're talking about...:)
Maybe if I disabled the current overclocking from 3,3GHz back to 1,87GHz and lowered the maximum player limit back to 60, you'd realise what this is about.
We can't live without overclocking with current amount of players on the server...

I fear, this could put some people into coma here.
Good luck with the test anyway.
I'd kill myself if I had to try and get on with a sixty player limit. Don't even joke about that:nono:What I meant is that it didn't need to be overclocked all the way to 4.5. Of course it would need to be stressed beyond factory settings, if we didn't the basic capabilities would be below what we have now...I'm just saying that the factory setting are almost as powerful as our fully stressed CPU, hence we should be able to get even higher levels with proportionally less stress on the new CPU...right?:$

I wish my PC could take one... Bummer. Ah, well, good luck with that monster and get it tamed down. (do we get to keep it?)

We might need it to improve the NPC activity, and reduce lag when the server is full. We might also need it if we decided to up the 128 limit.
No worries, this time, it's just a test. We'll decide later whether or not to upgrade to it. I just need to be sure what are the options we have...
Will the server be using it (i.e. can we play on it) with the new proc at all?

I've found on certain applications (server mode), that installing a RAM drive can improve performance.
It's doesn't require further pushing the CPU. Inherently all applications try to page the disk at some point and
if the CPU is busy, this take longer for the IO subsystem to get the request.
I've run applications in RAM disk size of 1.5GB on a 3GB box and there were some significant improvements.
I have no idea what subsystems are under strain on an FL Server, as I've never run one, my suggestion above may not work... Maybe you could try this before installing a CPU as it's all in software, no screws to mess with.
