And about spoiling the economy by seeing a noticeable amount of barge user around the place, i think that the ship numerous limitations already sloved that problem. Honestly, you don't see some often nowadays.
Understand I'm not winning about less cash, I repeat that if cash is your goal then barge trading is not your way. I remember to make 75 Mil for a trip with those BHG. 25 Mil was going to them, some at the guild, it mostly take us 2 full hours, we had 20% chance of getting blasted and it took a couple of days to plan it and were able to do it twice a week at max. Money was not the purpose.
More it was about a certain way to play the game, having to take a lot of time to move something huge, defenseless, by different ways and with different flying possibilities... But hey, if it has to seldomly move, so be it.

It's 4x times slower while having 8x times more cargo than ussual 5k transport. It still generates more credits per same time. Except for being clumsy to fly and such.
The above message nails the problem. The sheer cargo size of the barge in combination with the current economy created an imbalance where barges could generate ridiculous amounts of credits fast. Slowing them down is one of the ways to discourage their use.
The barge's role is intended to be that of a semi-mobile storage platform, not a supersupersupertransport.
And yea, as per the infocard, the barge shouldn't be able to use trade lanes. We have not been able to implement that yet however, game mechanics are getting in the way. If the devside comes up with a way to, it will be done.

It's also take 5 min to charge cruise, you get ram by npc you loose 5 more min. Asteroid field ? enjoy typing /stuck very fast and very very often. Meet a pirate ? You are screwed. Speed dock is quite odd sometime too, fail to dock with jh ? you can loose from 2 min to 10 min.

Yep, but that is if you assume that trading with barge on individual purpuses should be somehow more profitable than regular 5k transport. Why? because it's bigger?

Maybe because it's a pain to fly and with a 5k transporter you can do a run on 30min and stop but with a barge that took 2-4h do do the same.
Also this ship get lot of hate on it. Ppl blow it off for fun. And pirate tax you more.
Moreover, when you blow up or loose your cargo you loose much more than with a 5k. So yes you make more profit but you take much more risk since it's a huge easy target.
