That is the thing, we don not want a team to decide who gets what or when. Many of the modders on SW have come from another mod where that exact thing has gotten out of hand.
Every player has the right to own a cap ship if they desire, but they are powerful and we cannot risk their numbers getting out of control. The idea behind these rules I brought up for debate is to try and figure out a system that is fair.
Jinx you do have a good point about the forum activity thing. That is an even less perfect system of gauging a person. What other kinds of qualifications are usable to determine a capship ownership among non faction players? Something hard and traceable would be preferred. The last thing we want is a panel of judges for anything.
another thing you could try would be to have it like a Capship would be in reality... costly as all getup, so make the player buy everything seperatly.
disco tends to limit caps to use only their class of weapons. i think an alternative method would be make the player buy everything from diffrent bridges to diffrent engines, and powerplants. thus, if a player wanted a cap really bad, could just buy the cheapest stuff, and have A capship.. but against a cap where more was spent get the floor mopped with them. diffrent levels of quality to price ratio may help.
Cap whoring this, cap whoring that. Does nobody take into account that capital ships are some of the worst ships to fly in the mod?
1. Two bombers can kill any of them easily
2. You get screamed at for 'cap whoring'
So basing your ideas of capital ships on your experience in Disco is a bit one sided.
This is the issue though. In many other mods, those SUVs are bloody brilliant vehicles but can be taken out by some nails on the road (Or bombers, they seem that small..) Disco took that fact and ran with it. At Olympic pace. Battleships are pretty much useless apart from Roleplaying. So why do they exist at all?
Ah but why did the Houses build them in the first place? Clearly they were meant to be, as the Rheinland battleship info says, a "check-mate move". They just seem under-represented in Disco is what I am saying, so I wouldn't base my ideas of Capital ships solely on Disco. (Though I must say Disco is brilliant, community especially)
