I have seen a good effect in actually seeing lawful Liberty forces disperse more realistically and efficiently to adjacent systems where they were previously all but absent but I have also seen a slew of independent traders, smugglers and pirates joke openly about how its a free ride now and no one can do anything about it.
I spent the entire day yesterday mostly private messaging players about how "//ooc" was not for public display except in the most extraordinary circumstances and then watched over and over as the people I addressed openly "//" discussed how stupid that was and sarcastically have continuing"//" conversations publicly about how they needed to stop having "//" public conversations.
After four hours of this I finally announced, "//this is exactly what the admin asked everyone to stop doing and as of now I am simply taking screens of all the conversations for the admins to see"
That was the only statement that had any effect, causing a few of the more talkative ones to quiet a little after of course "//discussing it" openly for a few more moments.
It is primarily the same immature players who keep the ball rolling on this. Mostly ones who resent the admins instructions, resent a specific player or faction and want to vent it or who want to make a point that "no one is going to make them do what they don't want to do".
While it has thinned the system of traffic, the same 'repeat offenders" keep coming back routinely waiting for things to revert. In the meantime, they still have ooc conversations and still sit in less than useful rp quite often.
One of the worst offending groups are those who think the "rebuke" is for everyone else but them and will have a public "//" conversation to explain that at the drop of a hat.
It's simple immaturity. In some cases ignorant and in others defiant.
There does need to be a system message saying in the SIMPLEST terms, "public system messages may only be stated as if the actual character you are playing were talking--//ooc chat in public is not allowed except by admins."
The upshot for us is our fledgling faction's primary new member area is in an artificial state of play and it's much more difficult to act "realistically" with it as it is.
In my opinion (for whatever it may or may not be worth) it's simply a need for admins to come in randomly--give a warning and then start stripping guns and cash off of offending characters if they continue to "//ooc"
That is the ONLY thing this bad minority of immature players will get. They already know better--they just don't care becasue they think no one is going to really do anything to them about it and they could care less how it affects other players.
I tried to RP pirate a few traders in my usual spots in NY (I have never really charged a significant amount anyway) no-go. Got laughed at and ignored. Yeah, it has turned NY into a kind of free for all. What happened to 24 hours?
They say the Navy leaves Zone-21 unguarded... and without PvP, it'll probably remain that way. I doubt they'll start letting people into Alaska even if to only guard it...

I'm not dissing role playing but if it gets to the point we have to pretend we are doing things because we are doing nothing then it has become absurd.

Rightly said... Free for all.
Instead of a No PVP, NY has now become no RP zone...
Just saw an independent Outcast destroyer over Manhattan shooting at NPC BS patrols...
ha ha... what a laugh...

Spec, sadly that even occurs with PVP turned on. Whenever there's no SA/LSF online, the unlawful lunchboxes/dessies come all the way from their home bases and camp manhattan. Always happens, always will.

Guard rep for capitals, methinks.
Yea, but now if there are lawfuls they can do nothing about it...
well, i think we can agree that switching pvp off wasn t to improve matters directly. - its a punishment, - but i think it should have been turned on after 24 hours again. - as it was declared. - or its like saying " i slap you 3 times for stealing sweets, but after 3 slaps, you keep hitting the culprit for some extra 3 "
new york has/had its good and its bad times. sometimes the RP is good, - better than most other places, cause there ARE people there. ( RP in empty systems is easy, if there is no one to RP with ) ... - and sometimes its been horrible. ( like so many other systems, too ) - but new york is affected by that more than others.
for one, ooc-ness in NY is allways more extreme, cause there are more people there to be ooc... and more people that are pissed off by this ooc-ness. - for another, - getting it out of your heads to keep NY as a recreation system with low key RP takes some time, even for hardnened RPers.
thats why i think switching it off again doesn t help it much. - if anything, i d like to see pvp switched off entirely for a certain time, not only NY, cause in the end, everyone is involved in it. - and if its a punishment, it shouldn t punish only the factions in NY, but the server as a whole ... ( mind, IF there must be a punishment at all.... we are not children, and the admins are not our parents, as much it might sometimes feel like it )

Are you crazy?:mellow:Do you know what kind of advantage would that give to power traders??
Could we not post in this thread anymore? Maybe bump it if it goes down the page or something, but not turn it into a full-fledged discussion. After all, we already have one, two posts about this topic already.. if this turns into another 8-page monster, an admin is probably going to ignore it..
