Well, I am looking forward to this and I got SC as my top 5 games to get within the next 2 years. However, I personally wouldn't suggest to start making a clan/guild at this moment of time. Reason why:
-Players that enlisted on a non-existing public game will either switch to another clan or don't even play AFTER they see the subscription plans.
-Game is not guaranteed a release date as of yet, but a year. I wouldn't hold my breath on this game for now.
-The game may look epicly awesome, in grapics wise, but what if the UI/Game play suck and the free flight isn't a free flight after all?
Aside of what I have said, the information they shared and Luetin09 gave out from the game producer sounds legit enough to give the game a try. Nevertheless, do not hold your breath and get so hyped on a game that no one has yet played.
There's a lot of information out there, but I'll try to give as poignant an image as possible.
1) There is no subscription. There's a gateway payment of purchasing the game, same as Freelancer, which provides you access to the Persistent Universe (hosted by CIG) or the ability to play on private servers (hosted by players, similar to Disco). The only "subscription" is one that provides access to special development information such as a monthly magazine and a few other luxuries.
2) You can get into the game, plus the alpha/beta for $40 right now, which is $20-30 below the expected release price. If you believe that you wish to jump on board now rather than wait for the official release.
3) Gameplay is going to be similar to Freelancer in many respects, such as reputation systems and the like. The combat is going to be from the point of view of your character within the cockpit of a ship, as opposed to "third person" such as in Freelancer.
Furthermore SC uses a physics model, unlike Freelancer, that emulates the weight of the ship against the force of thrusters that attempt to motivate its direction. Think of it as being in permanent engine kill mode but with much more physical modeling.
The primary difference between SC and Freelancer is the planned scale of gameplay. Ships are vehicles that one enters and inhabit, with larger multi crew ships being a core gameplay element, as are environments. In this sense it's not unreasonable to take a surface impression of SC as being a "Next generation Freelancer".
Squadron 42 is a single (or co-op) player campaign in the same spirit as the old Wing Commander/Starlancer campaigns of yore.
It's a pretty exciting project and worth checking out. If you have any other questions you can find me here: https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.co.../DustyLens as I only check on this forum to laugh at silly things that people link me to.
Thanks for the info.I just now found out that my graphics card is not so suitable for this game.I can manage to play it at low settings with acceptable frame rates it seems.I will probably change the config before this game releases.
