Just what I wanted to say! Pilots, even 1000 years from now, dont control Ships with their Minds! There should be a 'Command Console' or something in cockpit view. That looks more realistic. (Even Starlancer used those, dunno why we dont have it in Freelancer)

freelancer -was- supposed to have that kind of thing, but microsoft rushed it to retail and a lot of game features got cut.
Similarly, many ships were supposed to have moving parts and that was never implemented. The liberty navy defender, for example, was supposed to be able to extend or fold in it's wings.

Anyway, on-topic, I agree, cockpits could use some work, but they shouldn't be top-priority. Honestly, who uses cockpit-view apart from miners and Kusarian and Libertonian cruiser pilots?
