I just want to add one thing. The formation of the houses in the game was to echo a point in that nation's history. Rheinland being Germany of the industrial revolution, Kusari in the tradition of the Japanese Shogunate. etc. My impression was that Gallia was to be an echo of Monarchist France in the 17th and 18th centuries. They most certainly used foreign mercenaries. The practice stopped when they became a republic, and was revived with the formation of the Legion. The practice of using Swiss mercenaries was curbed by one of the first international conventions in the early 1800's, and France created the Legion rather than do away with a valuable and expendable source of troops.
I just don't understand why your heels are so dug in on not wanting foreigners for cannon fodder. It is logical, plausable, and not contrary to one single item I have read on the Wiki regarding Gallia. Gallia IS France, and embraces the culture and institutions.
Pry:Shhh no need to shout. calm down matey. And noone questions that Gallia is xenophobic etcetc. Some of us doesnt wanan grow up. (esp if ,,adults,, are shouting about Junkers with capitals). Guess what you was not right. Junkers are not ,,tolerated sirians,, for the hells sake they are the Gallic spy network in sirius not vica versa even if it could seem else. Not accepted bad thing but the most powerful tool in the hands of the crown (in my eyes atleast).
Scrap: I think this thing in gallia is not based Only on history. Maybe -erm or to follow Pry's style-: MAYBE the king will allow one day some foreginers to die for him, but definately not till someone stops the GRN. till that day the King has every right and sense to decide what or who does he allow to die for him, and since he has thousands of voluntiers he just simply say NO on sirian scum. And I think its good thatway.
If we mix up those 2 guys we can say: hell make the legion become a junker sub-faction with organized militarian style. That would make sense. Some alternative among the scrapper cardi-smugler junkers. A legion of recyclers and collectors. Yeah. It would look exactly like in the books or Verne. Even the colour of the ships would fit the legion-theme. (ofc noone wants to use ****ty junker vessels for legionners right?)
Oterwise soz. I shut up my piehole. (100th post yey)
Look, I am going to drop this like a hot blintz. I was looking for an excuse to play my Irishman in Gallia. I am not your average noob, but I made the noob mistake of trying to gage the community by playing here for a couple of days and going on what I saw. Which was bupkus in Gallia. I have logged a quite a bit of time in Gallia, and only seen 2 PC's in that time. A trader and another Naval pilot.
Don't see how Junkers enter into it. My Junker character has nothing to do with this one, and my Gallian has been flying Naval missions only.
Well, there were a lot of Celts who immigrated to France over the centuries, Napoleon had a Marshall named Jacques MacDonald. There was a French General named McMillan. If you see me out there, just make like I am a Gallian of such descent. He will be all Gallian with the name of Kelley. Jean-Claude Kelley. Okedoke? I can RP that too, no problema.
Cream of the crop.. named after expendable cannon fodder..
I mean it sounds badass but the reference one would draw on makes no sense, nor could it since Gallia seems bent on being a nation of essentially xenophobes; any other ethnic groups built in seem to have been assimilated into "Gallic" proper (or pushed aside, as in my NS idea). While I'd imagine it could be bent a bit given the lack of explanations on a lot of things, the overall trend of this xenophobia is apparent.
Still, it's a nice story and all that, though it looks more like something that would be built into the GRN, like an unstoppable "Royal Palace Guard" or something of the sort.
I very much like the idea of a "2nd class" branch of the Royal Navy, a unit filled with socially undesirable people, treated with contempt by the rest of the Royal Navy. A group who are prepared to risk their lives to fight for their country and their honour, and gain respect from those who despise them.
So, take a look at this: Les Enfants Perdus. It's a similar concept, using soldiers from a social underclass as cannon fodder with grit and determination.
The problem isn't so much that the King would be unwilling to have foreiners fighting for him, the problem is that until very recently, Gallia has been completely isolated from the rest of Sirus. There are, quite simply, no foreigners within Gallia with which to form a foreign legion. Any foreigners arriving since the reunion are considered criminals and are hunted down. So, while I like the basic idea, a "foreign" legion really doesn't fit into Discovery lore.
I honestly don't care what France did in the 17th or 18th century. France =/= Gallia. You never saw Japan go to war with the UK and beating them either, right? My point, and that of the official GRN| faction concerning the foreigners in Gallia won't change.
Seby and I spoke for a good long time and shared quite some ideas of which most have a good chance at surviving. He and I both agreed that a foreign legion idea won't work on the side of the Royalists. Best to just drop it.
Yes, you have already made it abundantly clear what is and is not acceptable in house Gallia. I now see why most of the other servers have no PC heads of state. This whole situation has left me with a negative opinion of the RP dynamics of this community. In my opinion, it verges on meta gaming, but that is my opinion. I have only been RP'ing for 35 years.
And yes, you have also made it abundantly clear that history holds no interest or relevance to you. That is why we shall probably see your Gallian Royal Family pay a visit to the guillotine, as did Louis XVI. Same situation, same models. We can only hope.
At any rate, I have now lost any interest in playing a pilot who has anything to do with the royal Gallians on this server, except in opposition to them. So, vive le revolution! Take them off at the neck. The royal family must die, and slowly.:D
