I did not have in mind to use nazi-symbols or even names..(except for 'Wehrmacht')
and i did not want to name it that because of the relation with nazi-germany
I just play RO at the time and me and a friend had the idea to make a clan named like it.
I did not want to upset or annoy anyone!
I spose the way to think of it would be if you'd be offended if someone made a faction called the Liberty Defence Force. I very much doubt that it'd be dissalowed simply for being translated into German (Like it should be for Rheinland).
Space ... "Weltraum" or "Raum" or something.
But it sounds really stupid if you use it as a name like "Raumwaffe" or something.
"Weltraum" isn't a good description for what you would call space, since it always relates to Earth, "Welt" being "world" in English. But as far as I know it's the only translation.
"Raumflotte" -> Spacefleet is alright. Etc pp.
Some translations just don't sound right or fitting all the time. :/
And what "Wehrmacht" means...well, the Major summed it all up.
About the so-called Balkenkreuz, symbol of the Wehrmacht, what Andrzej posted, I'm not sure. The Bundeswehr, our current military, uses a derive of that symbol...So meh...
Some factions here even use the Reichs-/Parteiadler as part of their logo.
I guess that would be much worse...
As I have seen over the past few weeks. Starting your own faction is useless. Unless you start it with one of those generic IDs. The official factions will ride your backside till you give in or are banned by the admins. Best just to suck it up and join an official faction. It will save you a lot of time and effort.
If you really want your own faction, use a freelancer ID, then you can RP whomever the hell you want to. As for calling it the "Wehrmacht." Well I certainly ain't offended, even if you called it "Nazi Rheinland" I wouldn't be offended. As long as you role-played it well. Having some really evil fellows can be a lot of fun, I don't know why people have such thin skin these days.

The Balkenkreuz, or any variations of that or the Eisernes Kreuz are not considered a banned symbol, neither is the Reichsadler, as long as the swastika is not shown. Today's Germany uses variations of both (Bundesadler), chiefly due to the fact that they're all long-standing German symbols which existed long before the nazi regime.
Something you may want to note is that the wings of the eagle when spread, are a symbol of conquest, which have been solely under the use of nazi Germany but again, aren't outlawed symbols without the swastika. I haven't seen a Parteiadler being used on this forum though, though I assume using it would pretty much equal to the usage of an SS-Totenkopf or the sig runes. Try to avoid that, the rest can go.

Thank you for formulating such a stereotypical and biased opinion without ever even playing in Rheinland.

Joining the official factions is always better. But if done right you WILL be able to open up an unofficial faction. Just don't cause trouble and establish your "faction" a bit, before bringing out the big guns and declaring yourself independ from the official faction. Best would be, if you did your own thing, but didn't cause trouble by doing so. Most newly created unofficial factions caused trouble to the already established "political" stuff the official factions were doing without caring for consequences. This is bad. Very bad. Remember, iRP you are still just a small part of the official faction's faction.
Freelancer ID? Mhh...Depends what you want to do.
Calling it "Nazi Rheinland"? I thought it could be interesting to have an opposing unlawful force in Rheinland. Something Anti-Communistic, if you get what I mean. But that doesn't have to be "Nationalsozialistisch" (Nazi). Also it would still be ok to have a "nationalistische" (nationalistic) group etc. At the end ... just leave Nazis out of the game. You don't have to call it "Nazi" if you just want to represent some aspects of what you thought might have been nice besides the really bad stuff they did back then.
And ... keep in mind, being a "Nazi" in Germany is still against the law.
