Quote:Remind me of the RP background on using OC warships. You know, the part that goes past the "we used to have OC IDs".
The Consortium of the 1st era had quite a few arms deals and contracts with the Outcasts. We did frequent trade runs and RP-bought alot of ships from the 101st and BLS while they were around. There weren't a whole lot of formal ties; though. Most of the ships we have now are leftovers from that time, laid up in deep-space storage.
Use of the Outcast ID at the time was more out of necessity; it was considered the best solution considering the possible alternatives. We also looked at Junker and Blood Dragon, but the adminstration then chose Outcast. Now, due to rule changes and enforced NPC diplomacy, GC makes more sense.
We don't use Outcast ships exclusively anymore. As the arms deals (and alot of the factions we used to deal with) are long gone. So we'll gradually switch to other shiplines that we find are useful as we can RP acquire them.

Every time I had encountered the Consortium back when, it led to some form of powergamey situation that immediately made the encounter disinteresting. If you wanna pull stuff like, say, that boarding RP off, ask the person first.
I had a thought about this and think I have an idea. Given there is now a Marines commodity, I think it could be used for this RPing boarding. Simply declining a trade offer could end the possibility but there'd be a clear way to send one's intentions.

Ship to Ship boardings is one of the things ingrained in RP. We used to have heavy lifters that would act as salvage tugs. We'll probably use Marines for the same purpose, since Blackwatch troops and Zero-G combat robots we have serve a similar purpose.

Ingrained in RP or not, powergaming is powergaming, there is no excuse or justification for pushing it on someone who doesn't want to do it. Though Ktayn's idea was really quite good.
1) Secondary IDs. These are not permitted to allow something the primary ID cannot do. And they cannot be faction IDs. So there's literally no chance of using the OC ID as a secondary.
2) SRPs, well at the moment you can't have them, and even if they do comeback it's unlikely we'll permit anyone to SRP battleships purely on the strength of an old tech deal. So your chances of spec ops IDs are slim.
As for officiality, that's an unlikely prospect. This faction survives only if it's leader is active. Frankly we're a little fed up of cult of personality factions turning up, becoming official then dying. And promptly blaming us because the ID sucks or something.
Saint Del is considered a holy healer of diseases of children, but also as a protector of cattle.
At any rate, the capital ships we have will remain grounded until we can find a better solution; just because we use GC ID at the moment dosen't mean there could be a major switch at some point down the road. Wherever RP takes us.
Going Official will remain a goal, no matter how 'unlikely' or not it is. With systems of leadership put-in-place to ensure a continuity of operation of our current leaders die. Either way, we have quite a bit of groundwork to get through in either case. The Consortium could have easily been maintained after Watsas' departure had membership not slipped, but such is another matter entirely.
The other admins we have spoken to have already clarified the rules and we have obeyed by changing our heavy warship policies for the time being.
We could also speak about how many other official factions, long established ones, are dying left and right, but that is something to be discussed in another thread.
