Battleships can pretty much beat any other capital ship but falls easily to bombers. The main issue is that battleships and other capital ships are just too vulnerable to bombers, even with escorts.
Can be easily seen if you compare a capital ship fight to a bomber-capital ship fight. A battleship V battleship fight will take longer than bombers attacking the battleship.
Capships are all about the RP, giant status symbol, you will find them the first to fall in group engagements, as everyone targets the capship. So don't expect it to hang around long, get you're RP in before you meet the enemy and you'll ahve fun. Expect to win every fight with it and you'll lose interest pretty darned quickly.

' Wrote:I want to own a Capital ship, no denying. But there are three major issues:
Cost to purchase
Cost to maintain after battles (PvP)
Bomber rapes
Are there any good reasons to own capital ships anymore? I mean a bomber or two can destroy mostly anything with good pilots. Making them top dogs.
Capitals historically are meant to instill fear, destruction and panic into the enemy, not target practice.
Name any good reasons here.
Hmm ... think back into history ... to World War II. The Japanese navy (consisting of many battleships and aircraft carriers) was obliterated by small fighter/bombers launched from American aircraft carriers. So yeah ... the fighter/bomber has an advantage over battleships and such ... especially if there's more than one.
There's another major issue you forget ... players are not using capital ships they way they were designed. Battleships are designed to fight wars ... not chase pirates. Pirates are more likely to be chased down by the Coast Guard than by the Navy. One nation's Navy is supposed to worry about the other nation's Navy. Its like sending the army to chase a bank robber ... no ... that's the job for the police to deal with. And if the bank robber runs south into Mexico or north into Canada ... the US military, FBI, state police, etc don't have jurisdiction. That's where bounty hunters come in. But unfortunately ... these bounty hunters somehow got control of military vessels only nations should be capable of affording (both to purchase and maintain).
It is a myth to believe that bombers have more firepower than capital ships. Especially battleships...
"But but battleship turrets do x damage, and supernova does y damage! Battleships should have turrets with z damage instead".
Guess what, battleships have 10+ turrets all doing x damage. 10 x > y.

Buy capital ships for the RP, and they certainly destroy other capital ships easily. Cruisers and battleships need a survivability increase, but still should remain weak against bombers. If a battleship can wipe the floor with any lower-class capital ship, who are its counters? Bombers and fighters.

Unfortunately. The use of BH capships fits with the Guild Core but these individuals seem to have lost sight of the intended use of these resources.
This is my bugbear at the moment, perhaps people posting bounties might consider restricting them to GS/GB or smaller.

You could also do the math like this...
10+ turrets x damage x hit prbability 10px<py
I used to think alot that Battleships are easy pray to bombers, but I don't anymore. If you choose your space of battle (as in not chase pirates in to an asteroid field, but rather let them chase you in to the open) put your impulse speed to maximum, group your weapons so you increase the refire rate, mount a missile turret to give them something aditional to dodge... and practice your aim, then two bombers will have a really hard day with you, most likley retreating when they run out of regens. Using your skill to resonable levels, the bombers (and god no fighters) should be on the run in no time... you can't expect miracles thou...
2 doable
3 pushing it
4 if they are without shield busters and supernovas...
5 not even that will save you
I do get in such a situation ocasionaly, and it really pays to be mobile! 90 speed and some strafing is enough to keep some bombers at bay. I am terrified to see even some gunboats standing still when in combat... If you don't move you're dead... if you manage to dodge just one supernova you prelong your life for at least 20 seconds, enough time to grind a bomber in to a "halt".

The whole idea of bombers pwning capital ships has always been around. Until recently the battleship and dreadnoughts were the kings of the seas, but recently that role's been taken over by the Carriers, since they carry multipurpose planes, which can pwn other ships.
Because of this supremacy by planes, the US Navy started experimenting with railguns, to try and kill other ships, and planes from large distances, to give ships back their former glory.
