destroying a base should be something that Agmen's contest ship battlestar advanced couldnt accomplish on its own.
Destroyable bases should auto-repair or have shields, either way the regen rate should be so high as to make destroying them all but impossible and require a MASSIVE concerted attack.
That said, if it became possible you'd see lolfleets wiping out every <strike>lawful</strike>/<strike>unlawful</strike> base in Liberty, for giggles.
It'd just be WAY too massive of a grief tool.
Now, that said, for the purpose of events and such it'd be cool to make a base destroyable, but not past that.
To make it realistic, you would need a fleet the same size as the one that attacked Stokes to go about destroying or capturing a station of similar size. Yes there would be less defence but in the end, the force size is just too high to properly represent ingame.

Seriously I think destructible bases should be activated by admins. Like a weekly battle slot. Faction post fleet balance and time on forums. Opposite faction agrees. Admin turn on destructibility of one base and epic lagfest starts!
That will prevent: OMGZ GO AND DESTROI MANHATIEN !!!111ononeoneeleven!!!onehundredandeleven.
drCrest actualy has a point there, that would be super awesome! it could be a month event or something every month admins pick one week or a few days to make events such as explained in drCrests post.... and if someone that is not included in the battle gets banned for the whole day xD
P.S the last thing about banning is a joke..
P.P.S it would be hilarious if someone went and destroyed a base and the guys that owned it said "I blame Zelot for this..." xD
could it be implemented in a way that a base had soooo much health it would take maybe weeks to destroy? and on top of that could be repaired a tiny bit in some way? that way no one can walk up and blow up manhattan but in places like Eta or other warzones, one side could be "winning" the war and damage the base one day. and another day some more damage. and only after a WHILE would it actually destroy the base. maybe limit only to certain types of military bases, again like the ones stationed in Eta. just throwing out an idea:Pwould be cool to actually accomplish something when youre fighting a war right?

High HP value (60 mortar rounds) and a big kaboom when it reaches zero. The base should remain dockable, but the defenses should stop working until server restart.

that should work.. but not every restart, maybe 3 or 5 minutes after deploy.
