I disagree entirely with that. You'll only annoy an incredible amount of players off. A better solution (which doesn't actually wreck anything), is to make a trade route that is just as quick and profitable (but not quicker or more profitable, just the same) between Bretonia and Liberty or Bretonia and Kusari as it is for the Diamond/Noibium route. Then you will get people flooding into "grind" that as well as Kusari/Bretonia. Guaranteed.
Honestly, that's all that is required. Why make it more complicated or annoy lots of people by nerfing existing routes, when you can kill all these problems with a couple of new tweaks? You don't have to make this new "trade run" any quicker or more profitable than the diamond/niobium run, just make it identical in terms of time and profit. Then you just have to publish it and get people to spread the word to newbies and vets alike once it is implemented. People will initially flock to it because there won't be many pirates around straight away and after that you'll get police, bounty hunters and pirates all moving in because of the traders. People will still use the diamond/niobium run and people will use the new one. Only difference is a greater distribution of players across sirius (Bretonia/Kusari in particular). And hell, if you want to go the whole hog, make another similar trade route between Rheinland and Bretonia! None of this "oh but if we nerf this or that". Jeez. This can be solved without annoying anyone at all, you know:P
I can see your point Kuraine... yes maybe you are right... but this mod is called Discovery, so if one route becomes unprofitable and "quick" traders lost their earnings... it shouldn't be hard for them to DISCOVER new ones...and this new routes should not be so quick....
why anybody (except people who would make new prices) should be annoyed...
If some trader wants to make profit ... i think finding new ones can lit few sparks in her/him... just my opinion
The most annoyed will be "quickies"... who lost their fast massing credits ability...
Quote:I have even suggested to tax the Traders officially as KNF. A war tax for our war efforts aggainst Bretonia.
Yes you may have RP excuse for taxnig... but come on.. imagine LSF or SA or USS start taxing people for
maybe upcomming war with RH...
Laws must protect everyone but criminals.... Anyway imagine you have being taxed by some corsair in S13, then BD or Outcast at Akita and KNF at Osaka... sounds funny to me
KNF should have its trade fleet who will collect their much needed money....

Oh, blast it! I read that quickly and thought you meant KNF taxing for a war with RH. So a quote from Babylon 5 crossed my mind, but then I re-read it and saw that what you actually wrote was LSF and SA taxing to promote war against RH.:P
It's a funny quote, so I'll share it anyway:
Quote:"Only a fool fights a war on two fronts. Only the heir to the kingdom of fools fights a war on twelve fronts!"
Back to subject. Kuraine, I think the 2 hop routes are currently too comfortable and degrading to gameplay (maybe not to traders, but to the universe in general), at least with them being the most profitable routes available. We could keep them, but I don't think they should be the most rewarding ones in credits/hour.
If prices for diamonds stay same for entire Kusari space and just niobium prices switched to Bretonia instead Rheinland , or maybe to Liberty? So logical trade route leeds you to RH-->Ku-->Bre and gold prices set so Lib pays top..---Lib-->and again to RH or wherever you want...
Another idea.. Zoners should pay you top (more than highest price in any House sys) price for certain commodities which are delivered to their remote
bases in distant systems because you take dangerous trip to deliver goods to them
In that way you can create some trade loops which (only by my opinion) can :
1. Revive Bretonia and certain parts of RH (Studgart, Hamburg), Kusari (Kyushu, Shikoku), Liberty(All accept
NY)
2. Shift centers of trading and so attract pirates to that systems, lawfuls automaticly are drawn by pirates
3. Attract people to sign up with factions in revived systems (both Law and Crim)
4. Draw lawful forces outside main systems to secure trade lanes (pirates: there is more in pirating than show in numbers and tax.. pick right time, good spot and then tax 1/2 traders and run.. i consider this pirating...maybe it is just me)
5. Need for escorting service really increased and justified (One full loop about 30-40 mill and more and I will gladly pay 5-10 mills (and more) if my cargo remains in my hull, even if some of escort dies I would pay him/her)
6. Better RP options both for traders and all other players
7. Increase in quality of interaction between pirates, traders, lawfuls (not just waiting for PvP event)
Problems: YOU post it .. any ideas??
1. Because new routes can be longer so risk of pirating greatly increased taxes should be 1 mill max (only just my opinion) [with my pirate char I take max 500k.... pirating is not all about money and i refuse more money than I request]
1:More "quick" profitable trade routes through more systems, spread it out, traders will go there, pirates will go there... et al.
2:Raise the Artifact price in house systems.
3:Ditch the "smuggler" ID altogether, its silly, no one is gonna go around announcing that they are a smuggler... just make it the same as a trader ID, if they want to run contraband then their call - the police will just have to scan them and catch them at it - (it seems lots of traders are running contraband now anyway so the generic smuggler ID seems kinda pointless - it just makes the cops more wary of a so ID'd player)
4:I say keep the generic trader ID for traders of all levels - right now, you can join a faction if you want to and i think we should keep a little freedom of choice, we shouldn't be forcing traders to join a faction, people should be allowed to work for themselves if they wish.
5:20% of ALL trading income from ALL players should be given to one of my characters, just because. And also, ALL traders i tax must HALT when i say HALT... cos im lazy... (ok.. this is not a serious suggestion obviously, just checking if anyone is reading;)-
6:Make a couple of REALLY profitable trade routes.. i mean like.. INSANELY profitable, some CRAZY figure like 20 million for one run... BUT, make the route.. REALLY long, and thus highly risky, dangerous... everyone would want to tax it, traders would need escorts etc etc etc...
7: Raise the prices of certain trade routes INSIDE one house... ie, only inside Liberty, or inside Brettonia (from Leeds to Cambridge for example). Not by too much, but enough to make it a little more appealing to do for traders who just want to stay in system, but still be viable. Will also attract traffic to that route
What if MOX was more valuable? It seems important by all discriptions, and parishable, and very localized production. Why not make it more valuable?
Additionally my route, helps me avoid Liberty entirely. Deuritium to NT, Diamonds to NB, and Engine components to Gran Canaria, then start over. Most of the route is safe.
Need less to say there is already enough profits to be made....
MOX is very valuable if you know where to go.
I personally think Kyushu~NB is very convinent and the commodity of Diamonds needs to Go back to New tokyo....Kyushu can still pay good but not as good.....may be around 1100.
I think if London started paying competetive prices for diamonds, A lot of traffic will direct that way as well. Problem is all those extra JH makes a 15~NL run a very quick one..... Sigh
