Would it be possible to set up the forums to auto-tempban a gravedig for 24 hours? If someone posts in a thread that's more than a month (or two) old, show a warning before they reply: "You will be banned for 24 hours for making this post." Solve the problem automatically and without moderator intervention...if someone feels that the point is still critically necessary, they can take the ban.
Also, it'd stop legitimate posts from being made too. Faction recruitment threads, faction feedback threads, certain Open Market threads, and some other specific situations where posting in a thread that is dead is okay.

That and Stories of course. I don't want anyone to get the idea they can't gravedig their own stories or rp. This rule is for non-rp posts.

' Wrote:Um. What, exactly, is the compelling inherent evil in gravedigging that makes it a major enough problem for a forum ban rule to be applied for the sole purpose of attempting to stop it? I mean, it's rude and annoying, sure, but does it actually cause harm to gameplay or to the administration's efforts to improve gameplay?
Isn't this kinda like arresting people for flipping people off or cursing? Sure, it's bad etiquette, but it doesn't harm my gameplay or community experience at all. Seems somewhat extreme.
I think I will stick with these viewpoints on this, and note, I have never dug up an old thread before, except to link it in another thread to show something.

As I recall, different permissions can be set for each sub-forum.

He's talking about an automatic tempban for people posting a gravedig..
This is not possible to my knowledge.
It'd also stop legitimate posts from being made in certain threads that are exceptions, while others in that same section are illegitimate.
In short, it would not fix the problem, only make the chances of accidental tempbans more likely. Better for a guilty man to slide through than an innocent suffer. I'm never going to endorse an automatic tempban for anything on the forums, not to mention I don't think it's possible to set one up in the first place.
