Just a quick update. Supplies are movin in. Junkers from all around are pitchin in to help us out. Just today an indi in a train pulls in with a load of engine components. I directed him to the dockmaster to log his delivery and recieve pay and he said not to worry, this one's on him. That's more than generous, and I'm a bit of the suspicious type so I asked what gives. He says the Congress helped him out some time ago with a misunderstandin. Seems the local law mistook his train for a pirate ship. They were arguing about it outside o' Manhatten when one of our boys came along and smoothed things out. They ended up letting him continue on as he didn't have anything illegal and hadn't done anything wrong. I always say you can never have too many friends.
I'm working on a deal for some superconductors. I'll need them to tie the reactor core into the main drive system. The nuclear devices I'd set up came in yesterday so once we verify the integrity of the containment unit on the reactor we'll begin charging her up. I'm hoping for a burn test within the week.
Great to hear we are getting more support from independent Junkers.
Yesterday I ran into two more Junkers that brought us some supplies.
Seems everyone wants to assist us in our efforts to protect Puerto Rico.
Now about those superconductors.
Should be a guy on Rochester that has a stockpile of them.
So if you don't have other plans to acquire them just go see him.
Sells em pretty cheap too.
We've completed work on the hull. Of course we still need to conduct a structural soundness test to ensure she'll hold atmo but it's looking good. Primary life support is online. We ran diagnostics on the control module and the results are promising. I expect we'll be moving her to the outer bays within the next couple days. The guns are mounted and we have conducted the first series of function tests. We won't be able to fully calibrate them until we can fire em of course, but we've begun instillation of the targeting computer.
I am still waiting on the ALG shipments of depleted uranium in order to boost the armor. With the increased nomad activity it's becoming harder to find pilots willin to fly into Puerto Rico. You gotta love those corporate types; they're quick to ask for permission to shortcut through our home when it's convenient but let us need something from them and it's just too much trouble. There's a reason I chose the life we live. We junkers stick together thick and thin. Anyway, sorry to get preachy boss. I'm just anxious to get this boat out on patrol. I get the feelin time ain't on our side.
We're gettin there quick. If things keep going well like they have been we'll have her fully operational in no time at all.
Instead of using ALG to get what we need for the shields I was able to work out a fair deal with some friendly Outcasts docking on Vieques. Seems Arbitor Crow has won us no small measure of favor with them recently. There's a reason he's the boss. Anyway, the shields we're putting on this bird should withstand a few good hits and still let us continue the fight.
Tomorrow we'll be firing up the reactor and testing the engines. Assuming all goes well we'll calibrate the guns next, then take her for a test run to see what we missed. You know these restorations never go off without a hitch. I expect her to be on patrol by the end of the week.
While conducting my pre-flight inspections for the test today I discovered a saboteur in the communications hub. He was caught in the act of attaching a transmitter that would have broadcast our ship's location to whoever had the right frequency. If he'd have succeeded it's very unlikely we'd have detected it as it would be in sync with our own transmissions. In effect we'd have been giving ourselves away each time we communicated with anyone.
We're working on finding who he's working for and what all he's done to our ship, but as we have no way of knowing how long he'd had access to her and what mischief he may have been up to we're having a full security sweep conducted from stem to stern. If he had any accomplices we'll find them.
To ensure our systems haven't been compromised we are running a full set of diagnostics on both primary and secondary functions. I hate the delay, but until we know what all is at work here we don't dare risk taking her out before we're sure any tamperin's been done is corrected.
I know you have your hands full with coordinating the defense plans so I assure you I'll get to the bottom of this for us. The scans will only put us back a few hours. Pending unforseen circumstances I see us takin her for a test run later today.
The security scans we conducted on the Scylla were successful. We uncovered an explosive device attached to the coolant intake on the reactor. If we hadn't discovered it our test run would have been our last run! It was neutralized and nothing else was discovered. I've questioned the guy I caught installing the transmitter and I'm convinced he didn't know it was the trigger for a bomb. I don't know who else was involved but I assure you I will. I'll discover the source of this attack and deal with em, you can count on that. Anyway, on to the good news...
I am pleased to let you know our work on the Scylla's complete. She's fully operational and all systems are online. We took her for a test run round Puerto Rico and she handles beautifully. We put her through a series of rigorous battle drills and tested a battery of complex firing solutions. In each case she performed exactly as you'd hope for. I assure you she's ready for combat!
Only thing left to do is name her. Seein' she's to be guarding our home system and you're running that show I'll leave that to you.
Great work Tyber!
I am very impressed at the speed you handled this.
Glad to hear you located the culprit trying to sabotage our ship.
Be sure you keep him alive so we can interrogate him further.
After so much work I would love to give you some time off.
Unfortunately that is not an option.
I have more work for you to do immediately.
For now go and speak with Finnegan who should be at Vieques.
He will need help detailing the Claymore and uploading the structural designs into our database.
Be sure you don't upset him he does have a short fuse combined with an explosive attitude.
Try not to set him off.
Thank you again.
That is all for now.
Stand by for further instructions.
