I miss events. I guess they became 'old school' now. Well even in the past it was at times hard to get people to join in a planned event. Fans of spontaneous action as someone mentioned in this thread. Still it's quite possible to plan and tickle out a 'spontaneous' event. I give the Kurile Krisis as an example. It's more of a series of provocations that created the motivation and set the stage, then after it was just having everybody ready and waiting for the trigger.
Oh the event is sound. I'd log for it easily if my coursework wasn't driving me bananas or if my PC was sorta, built. Usually gets an overhaul this time of year and playing Disco on a 14" notebook screen when it 'aint in HD at all, sucks. I think this is the case for many people, either that or they moved on to another game. It has to happen eventually, right?

You're damn right it is.
Hidamari, fact is, if you have ram it up people's ass to get attendance, maybe it's not worth doing. What you're doing isn't 'generating activity'. What you're doing is obnoxiously shaming EVERYONE because they've decided not to come to your event. Some people don't enjoy combat. Some people just don't want to play in your snub roundabout. Doesn't mean you have the right to turn venomous by using terms such as "Praiseworthy individuals" to induce guilt in those who didn't turn up, and offhandedly insult people by calling them thick. Want to create some big events? Try and generate some healthy hype by getting friends to come along, creating RP lead-ups and threads to groups and people to make them want to be involved, instead of creating a thread, then bumping that thread, then throwing it in the shoutbox followed by shaming people in flood.
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
Round like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel,
Never ending or beginning on an ever spinning reel,
Like a snowball down a mountain, or a carnival balloon,
Like a carousel that's turning running rings around the moon,
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes of its face,
And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space,
Like the circles that you find,
In the windmills of your mind...
Combat is Boring and Uninspired. Nothing has been done to substantially change it or make it new or interesting. And clicking for several hours straight is Stupid. Maybe if Freelancer was actually a fun game there wouldn't be any need for organized events, but instead of fleshing out mechanics we just have endless repetitions of old ones. Box it and ship it. Old hat, covered ground, never addressed, never will be. If there isn't a story, and some notion of building and progress, then it's no good. The mechanics aren't up to snuff to make up for it.
Stop being surprised. Stop acting like you could expect more out of this place. You will be, and clearly are being, eaten alive for even suggesting that something has to give. You are not unique in this. I would say take solace in that, but rather, learn some humility from it. There is no force of logic, reason, good will or just plain energy that can budge what has taken root here. If you have buddies who will do this with you on a small scale, then I encourage you to do it if you think it'll be fun. But if even they won't do it, then try biting your tongue before you invite more abuse.
You came back recently from a hiatus, right? I've already begun questioning my own presence here, so why not you? If you don't have a core of good people to play with, don't expect anyone else to fill in the blanks for you. By now the only point to being here in the first place is for spending time with friends.

Hey Vogel. You might not have realized this neat little feature at the top right corner of your window. It's a small red box that has an 'X' on it. You see it? I suggest whenever you log onto www.discoverygc.com, that you click that box ASAP. You say you are questioning your presence here? Dude, we are all questioning your presence here. I've already told you that you won't be happy here...ever. So, do yourself and everyone else a favor and leave.
I totally dig your tristesse, Vogel. You are a crystalization of the 'bitter vet' phenomena I might also be seen as a part of.
That being said, staff put in a lot of hours on a volunteer basis, and although they are probably also aware that the 'product' isn't perfect, I do think they would like some form of gratitude. I know I would if I was spending my free time modding or admining a decade old game for other people for free.
I'm not saying you are wrong in your critique, far from it, but I do understand why it must feel a bit like a slap in the face to have work so clinically devalued.
So yeah, I agree with you in a lot of things, but rather than being bitter and negative, perhaps try being pro-active and positive? Rather than leaving it at critique, maybe come up with (reasonable and realistic) suggestions to things you believe could make the mod and community better? You've got ideas and a good head on your shoulders.
When push comes to shove, would you be posting here if you didn't enjoy the game or the community in some way?
I find it quite amusing that you still care to post volumes degrading literally everything about this game. With this pace, I am inclined to doubt if you "accidentally" came to the wrong forum of the wrong game. It is crystal clear that Freelancer is not the slavechild of your extraordinarily reality driven imaginations. Why not do us a favour and either take in the game, as it is....or look for a game/forum that suits your ideas of what a space sim might be?

I cant think of any sentence more wrong than this in the world.
what im doing is pointing out pretty obvious attitude traits amongst the players that are still left that frankly make me want to kick you people in the cock. These events do generate activity, not really alot, but they do. and in todays sirius of automatedbitterlancer its no end of benefit to create some more memorable fun times.
but no of course thats not worth doing.
I love this place and will do until its completely totally dead, ive invested too much time to just give up like some of you guys, so pass me the defibrillator and stop your yammering.
i was looking so forward to it too - i really wanted to see how you'd justify treading out more and more bitter, salty walls of text rather than actually mucking in and trying to fix all the problems you whinge about
