I would prefer to have the PVPs more RP based due to the fact if your a pirate in a light fighter then a house faction will send all its armada at you when really you should send out maybe 2 light fighters and a Very Heavy Fighter.

Not to be a Jerk, because I'm not trying to be but watch this and fast forward to 1:38 for the first example then watch as many cop videos as you like. Getting gang raped by the cops is normal.
Overkill ensures success. This is the law enforcement way.
In responce to the post.
However, rules about retreat, criuse, class vs class matches (IE: caps vs anything non cap) and non death reengagement are pattently PVP rules.
I accept life is unfair. I also would feel a greater sense of emersion with in this digital life if my characters could act totally in believeable ways. For example a career pirate loses his lust for plunder if he commands a criuser. (Not believable)
The best way to make this a total RP server is unnerf the PVP. The more PVP restrains legislated the less believeable RP there is for all of us.
If real pirates had a continate of thier own and built destroyers. Then had one of these destroyers cross a Exxon tanker would they say "Nah not worth it." ? I think not. We have purates with whole planets that cant find value in ships with 5 times the cargo of the destroyer so, they send bombers to collect.
Would any liner be totally cool with steaming past a pirate destroyer in real life? No they'd be extra screwed.
ANyway I dont think they will change, just learn the rules and come up with some lame excuse to MAKE yourself believe thats the way it should be, you'll be happier.
Well, it's not only a pvp thing which prevents cruisers and above from pirating, it's also a roleplay device. Why would a pirate cruiser, designed and built to take out other pirates and lawful response fleets, be wasting its time, energy/fuel to run after a trader? The pirates can just send their fighters off against that, which: a) aren't as imposing and dangerous to the lawfuls as a cruiser and b) aren't expensive to operate.
complaining about unfairness of a light fighter against a battleship. - would you also complain about 5 bombers attacking a battleship? - its the same no win situation. - note that most unfair situations can be turned around.
however, people think its smart to kill a battleship with a swarm of bombers, although it creates a similar situation for the battleship as it is created for the fighter.
pvp centered rules would restrict both. - cause they would try to create equal chances for an encounter. if you think of a situation, think of an opposite situation, too - then try to be honest and consider it yourself - if you feel the same about it or not.
many people will support seeing 5 bombers taking a battleship down, cause they will say it is right. - and in RP, it feels right - cause thats what its supposed to be.
the same people will rise up and scream when they see a battleship fighting a light fighter, cause they think its wrong. - although its no-where said whats right and wrong for that matter.
mind, the light fighter stands a much greater chance to survive the encounter than the battleship against 5 bombers.

Getting attacked by overwhelming odds in New York as an unlawful is pretty standard, happens to my Xeno all the time. You must pick your battlefeild and have your escape route pre-planed. Alot of players here will show some honour and ask players to stand down when the odds become ridiculous, sometimes they dont. If you are in an unwinable encounter then withdraw, it's totally within RP and a light fighter has an excellent chance of escape.
