I am considering buying a Bountyhunter Battlecruiser. I had the understanding that a BH cap ship is allies with all house police and therefore can pass through the space of all the legal houses and carry out bountys. However, the other day I saw RM tell a BH BC that he was breaking the law and needed to leave New Berlin. I have seen BH battleships in New Berlin before, so was he asking him to leave for another reason?
What are the limits to where a BH BC can travel...
and is there a restriction on buying BH cap ships?
It is considered bad form (thought not against the rules, yet) to hunt bounties in battlecruisers, destroyers, or battleships. Waste of the enormous resources needed to fly the things after just a simple fighter. The bounty wouldn't even cover operating costs, let alone the pay of the crew and whatnot.
So yeah. There are way too many BH capital ships, try getting a Manta, or a Hammerhead, the fastest VHF in the game, or a bomber. You'll get more respect from people...
thats are house ruler but not server rules... BH caps are not allowed in Kusari, Rheinland (except passing thru into Omega 15) and in Liberty (Im not sure about Bretonia).
+ there is RP reason because hunt pirates using everything smaller than another cruiser is absurd for every captain of BH cap ship class.
And if you dont want to be capwhore and engage all pirates only because they are on scaner (understand without bounty on them or asking from house authorities) there is only few chances what to do for you. If you check bounty board here on forum, all Houses pay only to bountyhunter using fighter class. Caps are allways excluded from cotract (understand nobody pay you).
' Wrote:Is then the main reason of having a BH BC to fight pirates in the border, edge, and pirate systems?
(e.g. omega 3, 7, 41)
no... only reason why to have bountyhunter BC is defending their stations, war with nomads and order or claiming bounties on pirate CAPITAL ships.
If you want just hunt pirates (everywhere), use gunboat or smaller class... but dont forget! you are not police! If there isnt bounty on certain player or whole faction and he/they didnt attacked you... there is no RP reason why to kill them! Pirates arent KOS for you... KOS someone in house system can be considered as murder even if he was pirate because bountyhunters arent judges.

Unless the target is a capital ship. Hunting fighters in -any- cap is considered rather bad form...
Actualy. I just want to clarify my statement there. It's not nessesarily bad form to engage fighters (note the plural) with a cap ship. Sure a very well flown bomber can solo a cruiser or battlecruiser, however those incidents are few and far between. If you are going to engage fighters with it, then only engage groups of them.
Cap ships should be used for fleet engagements, not just casualy flying around and shooting at folks who happen to have a bounty on them. If you have a big bounty target, bring out the big guns by all means. However if you target is in a fighter then bring a knife to a knife fight.
And yeh, I dislike the use of large BH caps for much else than fighting the order/nomads. It's not great RP to do so.
