As in, specifically, the one connecting Magellen to Kansas....either I'm crazy or it only works from finding it in Magellen first...then it shows up in Kansas?, as an exit? I had a character wander about in Kansas...judging from the positions of various known objects, he must have been right on top of it...where it should have been...is this how it works?...I'm cool with it, if so...just unsure if its an intended thing or if I'm confused (yet again).

Everything in Kansas is slightly off plane, that's why you're having trouble finding the hole.
Aha! Yes, I noticed that various things seemed to be not "showing up" for me...the character has a reasonably good scanner etc...I was thinking...I dunno...the character was bugged or something weird....well, the jumphole aspect can be worked around by the simple means of jumping the other way sometime...."off plane" huh?.....so that means if you pilot the ship up (or down) manually, then you can find stuff? Would turret view help maybe...to get a visual fix on objects?

I think the website's navmap tells you exactly how far off the plane everything is.
But yes, there are some jumps that are one way. Such as the gate in Kansas to unknown, and the hole in unknown to Pennsylvania
It can. If you want to browse a fully-completed NavMap (perhaps you don't want to, and want to explore yourself), check out the interactive, browser-based NavMap: http://space.discoverygc.com/navmap/
If you mouse over items, it will tell you how far above / below the "plane" items are. A click on an item will bring up the InfoCard as well.
It takes some of the fun of exploration out of it, as you can see where things are, but it can make traveling system-to-system much faster.
To note, there is such a thing called a "one-way" jump hole, that simply don't show up going the other way.
There are many things in Disco that are 'off plane', some of them are even interesting.
On a similar note, I remember playing a FL MOD that had a number of systems that were built vertically, with very little actually 'on the plane', they had TL's that went UP & DOWN to various stations.

It was quite a novelty the first time I saw it.
I think the mod you might be thinking about is called "Nightstalker's Universe". I remember having to look up and down to find any of the planets anywhere. Made exploring the system really interesting. Sometimes planets are like...100k above the plane.
