The man they called Blackwood sat at the simple table in the guest quarters on Wolfsburg. To his right, the viewport showed an impressive view of the planet, while the foreground below was dominated by a mass of steel-clad drydocks. There, inside one of those docks, his ship was being refitted.
His shoulders ached. Stiffly, Blackwood shifted in his seat and streched. Several bones popped audibly and he groaned. He ran his hands roughly over his face and rubbed his eyes. So much had transpired and he was running out of time.
Despair settled on his heart and the room's gravity seemed to increase. Numbly, his eyes wandered to the loaded pistol resting on the table next to his mug of steaming coffee. It's weight felt strangely comforting as he picked it up and examined the fine details of it's surface. What was the point anymore? Why was he fighting the inevitable? Death would come for him eventually, and he was so very tired... tired of fighting...
His hand began to shake as he raised the weapon experimentally to his temple. It would be so easy. Just squeeze and all of this would end...
Blackwood ground his teeth and squeezed his eyes shut. Then an unearthly howl that began in his soul escaped his lips and built into an enraged roar that shook the walls. His eyes flew open as he hurled the gun across the room where it slammed into the bulkhead.
"No! This is not over yet! Do you hear me?! THIS IS NOT OVER!!!"
It was time to consider every option. And if the universe continued to get in the way... it would burn. He would see to that.
He opened the portable terminal next to the mug and paused.
The White King...
Each and every time he had been close to achieving his goal, the same man was there; almost as if their destinies were intertwined. No, not if. They were indeed bound to eachother.
"Beaumont Snell," he spoke the name slowly, with familiarity, "what cruel joke has placed us on opposing ends of this chessboard. If you only knew who I was... you'd begin to understand just how twisted Fate's humor truely is. If only I were able to kill you, this would be so much easier..."
