Well, my computers desktop has left me an it won't come back. Seriously, explorer.exe just won't run and I can't jump start it like I just did with firefox or with cmd. Any advise regarding this would be much appreciated.
Otherwise, my freelancer playing and other freelancer projects can be considered on standby since this is the only computer that will let me play MP FL.
Hmm, can't say that's normal. Could you install TeamViewer? I'd be able to take a looksee that way. If not, I understand.
Try this:
Ctrl-Alt-Del
File>Run explorer.exe
Failed?
File>Run cmd.exe
cd %systemroot%
dir /P
Continue through it, see if there's even an explorer.exe, please.

If the computer boots until it tries to start Windows, set the bios to "boot from cd" and, assuming you have the Windows installation CD, you can use the chkdsk utility, further info in the link below:

Hit run explorer.exe was the first thing I did "access is denied"
And yes, there is an explorer.exe in the files alright when I looked at the system root.

I think you miss understand my problem, windows does fully boot up save for explorer.exe, infact I am posting this from the troublesome computer.
Also, this computer never had an installation CD, windows XP came on it. (I think this was back when XP was fairly new, so it was a good deal at the time)
Alright, please start mmc.exe and click File>Open. Browse to Windows\system32 and find eventvwr.msc.
Check the System and Applications logs for Explorer-related messages and post them.

after a security update ( actually it was a SP3 update for xp ) - i had to reboot. - the computre started up - and got as far as the taskbar, which only flashed up quickly - and vanished again, cause the explorer.exe caused a problem, which got the whole computer into an endless loop.
taskbar asking the explorer to start, explorer asked the taskbar to shut down, which shut the explorer down, which caused the taskbar to autostart again - repeat.
end of the story was: i had to fully reinstall windows XP SP2 - and have not dared to update SP3 since ( and there s no real reason anyway, cause SP2 runs good enough )
