I got the game for Christmas, yay me. I love it, with a level 19-ish Siren so far. Unfortunately, I have only been able to play one online game, and the rest are completely erratic. I have no router, so opening ports must be done via command-prompt, and I don't know if it's permanent, since I seem to have to re-do it every time I restart my computer. Someone suggested Hamachi, does anybody know any details?
Anyway, the game. I love it. (Damn it, I just lost) Firefights are fast and thrilling with headphones on, and I've more than once had to get a second wind or emergency Phasewalk. I can see me getting bored with SP, though, and desperately want to get a stable Multiplayer going.
Xbox is win for this game, the PC version gets hacked by everyone online and that takes all the fun out of it. Part of the challenge is finding the more rare weapons - on the PC version people can spawn their own weapons through third party apps/hacks, and there's entirely too many player-made guns out there doing thousands of points of damage per shot -_-
I swap between several different weapons and class mods depending on the enemy and what squad members i'm playing with (I have weapons with ammo regeneration that I use when there's no soldier with a team ammo regen class mod equipped).
Primarily, though, I use a mercenary class mod with:
+40% SMG Damage
+10 SMG Ammo Regeneration
+3 Quicksilver Skill (15% faster refire rate)
+3 High Velocity Skill (+60% bullet velocity, +12% bullet damage)
+4 Girl Power Skill (Adds 8% shield regen per second after killing an enemy)
And a backup Plaguebearer class mod with:
+52% Corrode Damage
+36% Corred Elemental Chance Effect
+3 Inner Glow Skill (+4.2% health regen per second while phasewalking)
+3 Mind Games Skill (+15% chance to daze enemies you shoot)
Really hoping I find a pestilent defiler soon, it's a revolver with a 100% chance to apply corrode every shot and does a splash damage effect that corrodes everything near the target, plus it usually deals 500-900 damage base and has a weapon zoom.
Despite the SMG damage bonuses the merc mods give, I use revolvers most of the time. I've got one high-damage scoped revolver (4.2x zoom, around 95 accuracy and 594 damage) that I use for sniping, my acid damage revolver has the same zoom, slightly lower accuracy (around 91), and does something like 396 damage. Also have a swift equalizer that does 600 something damage, but has no scope - I use it for the revolver ammo regeneration bonus it gives, when I'm not playing with someone that can regen my ammo for me.
I highly recommend that you carry a good lightning damage weapon and acid/corrosion weapon at all times, even if you dont use them for most enemies. The crimson lance NPC's are a pain in the rear to kill without an acid weapon - my brother's soldier can unload hundreds of shots into them with his machinegun and they'll barely take any damage, but with my relatively weak acid revolver I can kill nearly any crimson lance NPC in two shots to the head.
You'll really want a lightning weapon for the last few levels (the vault, primarily). You have to fight these alien constructs that have a ridiculous amount of shields, but very very low health. They'll take forever to kill if you dont have an electrical weapon, which does higher damage to shields than other weapon types.
