since i wasn t happy with the first concept i made - i revised it to feature slightly more elegant lines. after all... a civilian gunboat doesn t sell itself by just having the stats... it also needs the looks.
furthermore - i decided rather spontanously that it might be a civilian design that is based in bretonia ( like some minor cooperation building it ) - it ought to be as generic as the eagle ( which is build in liberty ) - but bretonian based.
besides - bretonia isn t blessed with too many ships - even if its not "factionized".
and the bretonian colours make it look quite neat i think.
Uh, Bretonian design? I bet the Kusari authroties will have a big issue with that. Also, looking nice does not make up for fail, which is what I think the stats of this ship will inevitably occur.
now .. THANKSFULLY the kusari civilians that just HAVE to fly a gunboat can use the explorer, which doesn t make bretonians too happy either... fair chance, imo.
That is actually a rather nice ship which makes very good use of the otherwise rarely employed Bretonian textures.
I find myself in a unusual position of not having any real complaints save one: The red cockpit. It feels rather out of place compared to other models and I'm not 100% that it really compliments the model.
Other than that it'd be lovely to see actual hardpoint locations for the turrets when the number is determined.
Gosh. Really excellent use of textures though Jinx.
This doesn't really look Bretonian.
Bretonian would be a good idea for a ship to make, yes. But this vessel doesn't necessarily look all that Bretonian outside the textures.
Example: Cockpit. Not sure where that comes from.
Example 2: Engine intakes. Very non-Bretonian.
Look at vanilla ships for how those things should be done, especially the intakes. (Bretonian ships DO have them, they're just craftily built into the ship.)
changing the glass colour is a matter of a second ( or rather just a click ) - it can also be bright pink, sickly green or sunny yellow ( or some actual serious colour )
about hardpoints... now thats a tricky one. - i dislike a simple copy - and since its a civilian / generic one - i wouldn t like to simply downgrade a military gunboat.
so here is my very own proposition:
- 4 GB turrets
- 6 fighter lvl10 gun/missile mounts
- small GB powerplant ( 400.000 )
- transport shields ( lvl7 shields - max. 100k )
- 55.000 armour
- cargospace equal to the bottlenose ( to prevent rediculously expensive armour on it )
its size is that of a rather small gunboat. ( considerably larger than a SHF and larger than the bottlenose for sure - but still... on the smaller side ) - agility should be that of a quick gunboat.
why such stats?
- 4 GB turrets give it a good chance against other gunboats when it mounts pulses/razors
- 6 fighter guns/missiles - well... for one, i find it a bit sad that all our codenames are somewhat poor on fighters - and mounting those on such a ship might be a nice chance... either way - a pilot needs to manage his guns well, cause they don t synth with the GB guns. - if wanted - a pilot could also mount a staggering 6 missiles ( mind, a fighter can do that, too )
- lvl7 shields only and 55k armour to make it vulnerable .... its small and agile, armour and shields are its weakness.
this ship is not meant to look like the bretonian military aquarium. - these are military ships - and this ship is civilian.... however it uses the white/red/black coloursheme, cause its build in bretonia - much like the eagle uses the bronze colour, cause its liberty ( like the starflier )
the ship has nothing to do with the fish designs at all - it may just occasionally make use of similiar materials, armour plates etc. which are produced in bretonia.
after all.... a fiat panda doesn t look like a ferrari, - yet both are produced in italy.
Yeah, no. With stats like that? It wont get used. you expect a Higlhy trained Paramilitary Organization, or combat professional in generall, to voulntarily use something of strength that low? I dont see it happening. We simply dont need more useless ships.
That'll be something to hardpoint on the model allright...
Yellow or white might fall in with the civilian concept a little better.
Or even transparent if you felt up to the task of building an internal command deck which looked reasonable.
From a player perspective however I think people will shy away from a one shot wonder gunboat. Experiments are cool and all but players generally hate being killed really really quickly.
