I tried to get some tags the transports and capitals use before their names like LNS-Salt Lake City or RSS-Flensburg.
I also wrote the language behing the tags so the players know which names they can use best.
Why do I do it? The most transports are wearing unrealistic Names and many new Capital ships wear wrong tags or invent new... I wrote the standard tags done here. Its not finished yet but Im on it. I just wanted to gave out these who are finished and hope that some players send me those I dont know or these I forgot.
All tags are tags for independent Transports. The Capital tags are also used by the official Military factions.

Oh and sorry for the bad english, I come from germany.
Well along those lines, for about the past week or so, I've been tossing around tags for cap/trains, i.e. Cryer|RS-Momo (research ship), Cryer|CS-Appa (cargo ship), and something like "BS" for battleships (since something like that did appear in vanilla), and "GS" for gunships. Needless to say, I'm glad someone brought this up, it's hard to tell if someone's just using a nickname or if it's a ship's name most of the time and this might help with that (if it's really an issue, I sorta thought about it but let it pass so to speak).
Well ok, Cryer does the same thing with the naming convention, but many people still use the whole "nickname" thing or even just their last name, which even if you know a faction's naming convention can still be confusing at times.
Interspace are named for where they operate, like OS&C, not by 'American'. Stations advertise this best;
Waterloo - New London
Newark - New York
Roppongi - New Tokyo
Bonn - New Berlin
Furyoku - Okinawa
All 5 names (4 vanilla, one Disco-added) are associated with a place in the area they are in. Roppongi, for example, is a district in Tokyo, or at least the prefecture. (Hard to remember which off the top of my head.)
I think the transport tags are more for the independents. The officials wear their clan tags and are better at RP anyway but when I see a transport who has just a stupid name which not even has something to do with the weared ID I immediatly think they are bad at RP.
I find this very interesting as there is a movement going on elsewhere to go untagged so as to minimize metagaming by using the chat window.
As for having a tag in a hip name be realistic, it could go either way really. In terms of naval and military ships, yeah, they all have a prefix in RL. Freighters, civilian ships, pirates, etc usually dont though, not in RL.
I do agree though, that ship names should reflect the area in which they operate and should be as in RP as possible. I have always tried to do this with all my characters.
