I think you all know about the new Freeworlds: Tides of War mod?
Yes well, I just wanted to let the few minority that don't know, that:
-The have managed to get the game to run with DirectX 9.
-They have successfully implemented Colour Correction in the systems.
-They have managed to exceed the polygon/triangle 3d Model limit in Fl.
-They have implemented proper bloom, not like the one we currently have which takes whatever is on the screen and projects it as a light.
-Not to mention the fact that they have managed to change a lot of the Game engine controls and stuff.
-A new ship market that is ACTUALLY linked to the game. (Let me here a F*** YES)
And all their developments will get released to the whole FL modding community, I hear.
Quote:Sorry, Discovery can't contain things which exist in other mods.
Which is pretty lame if you ask me. I know we're trying to be 'original' and all, but we're lagging far behind some of these other mods in terms of gameplay and visual effects because our devs are being stubborn about using good code that's been put out there by other mods already.
After ford car company got up and running, do you really think every other car company decided "we're not going to make anything that even looks vaguely similar to a ford, instead we're going to try and make a car with triangular wheels that runs on carbonated water and is steered by joystick"? No, they used what was proven to work in order to progress their company.
Same thing applies here. These developments - like the dx9 conversion or color correction - are not mod-specific, they're tools that make -any- mod better, and just claiming outright that because our devs didnt discover it or make it, that we're not going to use it, is pretty stupid.
I can understand not wanting specific things like ships or weapons copied from mod to mod, I know the devs here get pissed when they see their ship models being used in another mod, but generic improvements like this should be used without hesitation.
Well if the modders of FW who made it actually release it for "public (meaning to the community) use, as in for other mods, then I see no reason why our devs shouldn't take a look at it and see if there's anything we can use.
From the looks of it, there is, but I'm no expert.
P.S.
Could you clarify the part about ship markets?
