So I have some ideas about how to improve "Discovery" :
1. What about different speed settings for different ships I will give you an example: Titan (great armor and firepower) Gladiator (more agile than the titan but lacks firepower and armor) so why dont you make it a little faster lest say 500 cruise speed and 120 pulse etc. for every ship. I will give you yet another example: when a pirate ship is chasing freighter...I think its stupid that they have to chase them trough systems when they can simply outspeed them and start pirating:)etc. etc.
2. Every planet should have some moons maybe small in diameter like asteroids just for more realism and lets say some inhabitated moons around big gas giants
3. it would be really cool to have some more equipment stuff like engine uprgades (for the speed thingy) gun mount upgrades, power plants, agility upgrades...etc. or for traders more container compartments
4. To be able a trader or any other player in fact..to hire NPC escorts where player ones are not possible or simply to have your self wingmen for missions
5. Banks. You all know how they work bank on almost every station
6. Bigger planets and station and everything else actually i always hated the scale settings in Freelancer
Thank you for those who have read this and sorry for my bad english and for making the modders life more complicated
ummm....the planets and stuff are that size for a reason
just take a look at a photo of the international space station infront of earth...now the international space station is round as big as our freelancer stations....
yet the international space station is a tiny speck compared to the truly awesome size of earth
i dont think there are big enough harddrives to support a huge size increase
you do realize even udner something as sketchy as freelancer physics...you need bigger engines for bigger thrust right?
npc escorts...i think thats already been ranted about before....heck i even personally ranted about it before...it just wouldnt work....one small player can rip apart an entire fleet with enough skill
i like the idea about more usefull moons and stuff...might need abit of discussing and refining though
banks....for igiss`s sake mon...make yourself one

Not a bad idea, and last I heard, they were implementing something similar in version 4.86. The plan is to make LFs and maybe Freighters cruise at around 400 m/s, which is a step in that diretion. But to imlpement different speeds with individual ships... well, we'd need to be pretty careful with all of that. It would take a lot of extra work to keep everything balanced and fair, and people would whine about it, anyway. But hey, we're getting there.
#2:
Many planets already do have moons, and some of them are inhabited. For example, Maine is the moon of Planet Pittsburg. In some more remote systems, there are gas giants with several moons. And who says every planet needs a moon or two? Some planets just don't have them, and that's fine.
#3:
Implementable, probably. We did add armor upgrades, so the rest of those should be possible. The issue would be balance, as mentioned above, and necessity.
#4:
NPC escorts is something that's been brought up, but I'm not sure what the outcomes of any of the discussions have been. Probably not easy to do, and another gameplay element that people might whine about. I don't really have much of an opinion on this one.

You know, I'd never thought about putting banks directly into the game before. But all of the player-operated banks work just fine, I think. You can also just make your own bank character, and use the givecash and drawcash commands to move money around.

The scale is indeed crappy, but it would be beyond our powers to make stations and planets more realistic in size. As "nameless" said above me, planets are really, really big. There's not much we can do except ignore it in-game and make fun of it out-of-game.
You two should not be allowed talk about modding related topics.
Planets are just big balls with textures on them.
Fantastic.
They can be made the size of a pin or the size of a galaxy, whatever we want.
It would however, take work to move everything in a system so that things can be sized up. (For example, size Manhattan up and it would be large enough to engulf some tradelanes, so you have to move them)
Whilst this wouldn't really be hard work, it would be lots of work.
Stations probably could just do with some more station components that are simply larger in volume than what we have now.
Ships would remain the same, they are scaled correctly between each other.
Scaling everything down could work but would result in having to fiddle with guns and balance, which would be hard work.
So, at least on the scale front of things:
1. It's easy to size planets/suns/etc up. It's a lot of work though.
2. It's hard to size ships down. It's still lots of work.
To answer your other points.
1 - Already happens, though with thrusting.
2 - Roleplay mod. How would you explain this new moon in roleplay? Consider the effects it would have on the solar system if it popped in suddenly.
3 - Possible
4 - Possible-ish.
5 - What's the purpose of the bank? There already is one with FLHook.

Yeah, I kind of jumped to a conclusion there. I'll admit, I don't know anything about modding.
Still, a realistically-sized planet would cause problems in the game. Could you imagine how long it would take to fly around one of those things? Unless we got significant increases for cruise speed, or other methods of instantaneous travel, I'd rather not see a "realistic" planet in-game.
But hey, whatever. This is all hypothetical anyway, and It's not like half these topics haven't already been discussed to death.
I don't really care about planet size, but I really like 1, 3, and 4.
1. I wouldn't go so far as to have lighter ships' cruise speed increase by the hundreds; maybe by 30 or 50. That would be enough in my opinion.
3. Like the idea, but it would be very hard to implement without messing up the balance in disco.
4. Everyone is always complaining that NPC's serve no purpose other than to occupy space and make population levels realistic. Why not put them to actual use and have them be hired to fight with you as wingmen? But again, im sure it would be pretty difficult to make that happen.
A moon for every planet? No:)
Earth's moon is an exception, an almost unique case. Most planets don't have moons; and when they do, most moons are little more than big asteroids. Earth's moon is huge, it's part of many factors that make our planet unique, and possibly one of the reason that made life evolve on our planet.
If we needed one thing for realism sake, it would be less "star clusters"... a lot of systems in Sirius have double or triple stars. The percentage of multiple stars in such a limited space sector is quite unrealistic. I'd say remove half of those extra stars, maybe put gas giants in their place, more distant to the star of course.
But again, it's not really worth the effort. I mean, there are more important things to change in the next versions of the mod.
When i think about it you all give some good reasons why it cant or could not happen. about the planet scaling...there was a mod once i think it was crossfire (sorry for saying the name here) there was a coalition system with a planet probably 3 or 4 times bigger than Manhattan and it was pretty realistic to me a mean if you put a fighter alongside a planet its like the fighter is the size of a medium country they are supposed to be small compared to the size of the pilot. about the trade lanes and stuff why not make the planets higher on the horizon or lower and just redirect the lanes. Also i think by moving objects (not just a handful of stations and planets) up or down would be a huge asset to realism.
I have another idea:D
could it be made something like a sensor jammer not a cloaking device just something that will jam your ships transmission and data signature it could only be spotted vissualy (something like the Normandy stealth systems in mass effect) and offcourse they should be very very expensive.

Something similar was already suggested here a few weeks ago.
