I decided to see how hard it would be to implement a turret zoom mode for Discovery. This is the first prototype. I need to do more work on the zoom in/out speed and a few other things.
I was going to make a better video but couldn't be bothered so here is what I've got so far.
This is also the very first youtube and fraps video I've made. Now that I know how to do them, I'll make a few more showing other features that are coming.

It has keyboard bindings for zoom-in/out and mouse track ball. I might but probably won't add mouse click and push forward/pull backwards to zoom as well.
The maximum zoom out limit is 5k.
You can change the zoom in and out keys using "User Interface" section of the Freelancer controls setup.

A little correction: when I said mouse track ball I meant wheel.
The use of the wheel in turret mode is configurable.
Adoxa's turret steering is already implemented but I'm unhappy with the way it works. I think I will need to change it. Because I don't entirely understand the way the ship movement code works, this will take a little time.
