I have been through this forum looking for a solution, and whilst the problem has been mentioned numerous times in passing, I diddnt find a solution.
So, I recently installed freelancer on my new laptop. Heres the spec, for referance;

Vista Home Premium 32bit.
Intel Core 2 Processor 1.37ghz
Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family.
I had a similar problem when I installed Vice City...only worse. Flying character maps and flickering. I updated my chipset drivers, and the problem was solved. (after many hours questioning the logic of new updates solving a problem with an old game).
Naturally, as a result, I have the latest drivers for my video card.. and I just checked again.
Anyways, the nature of the problem is that text is flying across the screen, in all directions, flickering and making it difficult to play. Its only once I get in-game that this begins. Main menu is fine. Menu within game suffers from the problem.
My game also crashes randomly for very little reason, although crashes seem to happen at a similar time to when a large ammount of flying-text appears.
If anyone can provide a solution, please post. Sorry if this has been solved before, and im simply useless at sifting through topics. :(
Well, my FL revently bugged, so that each line of text had four blank lines under it... and peoples names weren't appearing when they talked. A re-install did the trick quite nicely.

Update: Uninstalled, Re-installed, followed D-Boys instructions again, and its juast the same as It was.
Possibly related, my monitor is widescreen and I cant for the life of me work out how to get freelancer to fill the screen. All the options are normal-screen, and no widescreen option is given in game, leading to a 2 inch border on the left and right sides..
