Are Lane Hackers allowed to demand payment from and or kill Freelancers because they have a good reputation with the Liberty Navy? I thought Freelancers were neutral to Lane hackers:mellow:
LH's will not do that because they have a good rep with the navy...they will do it because that is what LH do.
Neutral means they will generally ignore you unless you give em a reason to attack eg. Juicy meaty cargo.
Yeah being neutral with bad guys is kinda like that.
Way back when, back when I was an Ambassador, the Kusari and the Lane Hackers had a nice little cease-fire of sorts, due to the Hogosha and such... t'was a long story, but it was sound. At any rate, the idea was that the Lane Hackers wouldn't pirate Kusarites while in Kusari space; outside of space, the Lane Hackers would be as pirates are.
Anywho. Lane Hackers will pirate just about anyone not directly allied to them; freelancers included.
:(
Still! Consider this: if you're lane hacker tagged, the Navy will attack; if you're Navy tagged, the lane hackers will attack. However, the lane hackers will attack no matter what... so, is it philosophically sound to merely be Navy tagged?
Depends on your RP, I guess... I'm rambling! Sorry. Pipsqueak said it well, I just wanted to build on it. Or spam... >_> <_<
Flying deep through the barrier and attempting to bribe me with one credit might have seemed funny for the Armored transport pilot, it was not worth the risk, though.
Personally, I can arrange a variety of trade/deals with freelancers, if they're squawking a friendly IFF.
Note that a even completely neutral freelancer will be treated as an Unfriendly when I have even the slightest bit of suspicion.
A Mk.I Hellflurry in your cargo hold usually does not mean you bought it and that you polish it and like its appearance.
Trespass into the Barrier at your own risk, mate. See you in space...
freelancer infocard say somethign like this
pilot carrying this id is a lawfull freelancer who work for himself.....
so i think unlawfulls need nothing more to attack you.
you are lawfull for them

The official Lane Hacker clan position on neutrality is:
neutrals are targets of opportunity.
That means we will deal with you according to whatever we think is best for us at the moment. That could mean ignoring you, pirating you, killing you, helping you, taking a bribe from you, or working for you in some capacity.
Your attitude and behavior towards us is the key ingrediant.
Mouth off rudely or show disrespect and you will get an introduction to the Hellflurry Tachyon gun. (And that applies to rank 60 starfliers too, as one knucklehead discovered yesterday)

Thats all good, i wasn't whining or anything, im just new and i am trying to come to terms with the politics of discovery, if anyone could point me in the direction of some rules stating what different Id's allow (ie freelancers are not allowed in Rheinland ect ect ) that would be great, Cheers
personally i think its a measure of chance and profit. lane hackers are pirates. they might dislike the liberty goverment, but they haven t got an ambition to install anything else. - they dislike ageira, but they won t build up their own company to compete with ageira, so all they really do is to pirate ( still bothers me how they afford to build those battleships - from pirating?)
anyway - how will a pirate consider a target.... . a transport with goods (sort of no matter what ID) is a valid target, allways been for a pirate... so its up for grabs.
an empty transport may be a target - but thats "metagaming" cause, in fact there is nothing to get - and empty transports are only pirated cause we "know" they can pay. - for a faction like lane hackers - thats a bit of a problem, cause they are down to pirating - instead of like gaians / dragons / bundschu - who have a political issue and are also about to "terrorize" those that basicly "support" the goverment. ( applies to the LH aswell, but not so strongly )
an enemy fighter will be considered a threat and will most probably be attacked, depending on the chance. if the chances are 50 / 50 or worse, i d expect a hacker to wirthdraw ( unless he wants to pvp ) - cause, in a roleplaysense, there is nothing to gain from such an encounter - there is only to loose, even if you win the dogfight, you gained no profit, and will pay for your repairs.
an fighter that is neutral - sorry, i don t see any opportunity there. a combat vessel that carries no valuable goods and that the hackers have no issues with can hardly be considered a valuable target. whats there to gain? - bats, bots, but not really - ammo? hardly worth the trouble - a lot of bruises and a damaged ship... most likely and most of all, you might turn a neutral to an enemy.
a zoner ship... hmm.. the only freeport the hackers deal with is IMG run. zoners can t come up with the "we deny you docking rights on our freeports" cause no freeport is in the ZoI of hackers ( however, zoners can tell them to get red to zoners if they are attacked, - making it impossible for hackers to dock at far away stations - if the hackers ever feel the need to fly far away to a zoner freeport )
IMG ships - hackers should / would not really want to attack them, for the reason that the magellan freeport is run by IMG. making them enemy would be a bad idea - especially cause the IMG freeport is usually patrolled by an IMG fighter wing.

Do not underestimate the profits we gain from that. Our real budget is like this ... 1/2 smuggling and selling information, 1/2 seizing valuable goods and making traders pay for their previous dirty commercial actions.
And we need the Zoner docking rights... you apparently forgot that they run Ames Research Station in Kepler, and our Leiden Base in Galileo needs to obtain supplies somehow, not to mention the radiation doses.
* whops, totally forgot about ames and seling information - somehow i allways think of hackers to be "the guys in the other system than cortez"... too bad that informationselling is hard to roleplay - with most people just knowing about every single thing - like jumpholes / pirate bases / events - etc.
but i guess selling information is by far the more profitable thing than pirating. ( profitwise .... informations are worth more than a few goods in modern times, i think )
