I want to be able to own more than 1 ship and switch between them. I know there is a program out there ( Freelancer Account Manager ), call me paranoid but i dont like downloading unknown executibles off the web.
So is there any other way we can switch between multiple ships at will ?
and on the same note..I see people selling ships and equipment to other players. How do they do that?
If you download Discovery lauchpad form these forums I can say it is safe as I have been using it for a long time myself.
Just search "Discovery Launchpad"
You could also download Freelancer on another account on you compute, this will let you switch accounts.
You will need to have "run on all accounts" disabled though for it to work.
FAM is perfectly safe.
Seriously.
Created by a member of this community, if i believe. or something.
As for buying/selling ships,
Theres two commands, /set charcode and /movechar
/set charcode {code} sets a move character code
/movechar {charname} {code} on a different account then moves that ship to that account.

Is there no other way to own multiple ships.. other than to have a 3rd party program?
If i make another character, and i trade ships with that one? I would think that would be the same as trading ships with other players, but I am not sure how to trade ships with other players.
First piece of advice. Do some reading, use the search function, and check the Discovery Wiki (but keep in mind it may be out of date) And you'll find the answers to lots of questions.
But, to answer your question:
Each account (attached to that multiplayer key FL comes up with the first time you connect) can have up to five characters (or ships). It is impossible to have a single character (eg, bank account, rep sheet) with multiple ships.
The account manager or Discovery Launchpad are the only ways I know of to switch between multiple accounts with any ease. Or actually, separate users in Windows works too (FL generates a separate key for each).
The good part of the account manager is you can save the account key into a file. So if your computer gets wiped or you just want to play on another computer you don't lose your characters if you export the file to a flash drive etc.
Selling ships is a server command. It transfers the entire character over to the other player.
/set movecharcode <code> set a number code as a password
Any other account can then use
/movechar <name> <code> to transfer that character to their account for 2 million credits. Note you must also have a spare slot available (eg, <5 characters already).

There's no other easy way to own multiple accounts than a 3rd party program.
But really. Both Discovery Launchpad and FAM are perfectly safe. YOu'll be fine.

I use FAM since I play in disco, and its perfectly safe, so 2 voices for FAM

These are the laws of the great god Lolwut. Offendeth him at your own risk.
I would recommend the Discovery Launchpad.
I've been using it for a while now, and all seems to be going down nicely. It makes creating shared accounts relatively easy too (Thanks Jongleur!).
