The idea is that, no matter how oorp it is, some traders will not mind losing some profit to spite the pirate. If the pirate gives the trader 3 choices: live, or try to run (by leaving his hull at 100%) then the trader will most likely try to run, possibly jettisoning and destroying cargo, and ending up dying in order to waste the pirate's time and not give him anything. If the pirate takes the trader's hull down to 5% then makes the demand, it's live or die with no time to jettison and sabotage. If your demand is less than you would receive by killing the trader, then any trader with half a brain will know not to try to spite you, because you'll get 3000 cargo if he dies and let's say 1337 cargo or a lesser amount of $ if he complies.
Couple of problems here.
1) Almost no RP before draining shields and haul makes for a very unpleasant experience. Don't ruin other players experience just because you want to "scare" them. There are other servers full of people who do that.
2) By draining shields and nearly destroying the ship you are also destroying the equipment on that ship. Oorp, there's no reason to even listen to your demands at this point. It's better to take the death then spend the next 2 hours flying around and replacing equipment. Inrp, if you really wanted to rp then you wouldn't be destroying all that hard earned equipment in the first place.
Just seems like this is an attempt at quicker PewPew without rp. We don't play here for instant death/destruction.

Thank you for your concern, sir.
While yes, I do intent to be harmful to the enemy ship, though the way I inflict the damage is mostly guns, thus all of this equipment you're worried about stays ~90-100% intact most of the times. I can't remember the last time any trader lost any equipment before exploding as a whole. So no, your equipment won't be harmed, mostly you'll lack any nanobots or shield batteries, which cost less then 500 credits each. (Not -that- expensive)
As for the quicker PewPew without rp. I'm a bit offended by that. I intended to use this tactic with role play, that little blue text*, to actually give traders the experience of what a really ruthless pirate is. As for the quicker PvP, I could always have /l1 and /l2, one being about halting the ship and the second being the demanded 2 million. If I wanted that, I would've done it. Oh and to make sure nobody pays, I could simply ask for 4-5 million credits, a price that only ore haulers actually pay.
So no, I'm not doing this for quicker pew, I'm trying to create different pirating experience. That is all. Roleplay included.

Taking a SNAC in a snub also makes for a very unpleasant experience and this server is full of people who do that. :rtfm: :nono:
here aer just a few examples of control and how to apply it and when you lost it...
in general ... one might speak of "escalation" of a situtation when it is elevated to a different level - often it is used in situations when the time of diplomacy has reached a level where open hostilities happen. - now the important part about such open hostlities is - that ..... it gets a momentum of its own, hence, no one is entirely in control anymore - even if some ( the stronger one ) claims to be in control.
long ago - i met dreygon - who was flying an outcast destroyer at that time ( 4.82 )
- i was doing a popular run back then ( niobium / diamonds ) - and he already had terrorist status.
- what he did was - he popped up at the far side of the scanner range - never came close enough to really identify him.
- all i got was a red contact.... and even when i stopped and thought i d let him catch up to at least know who was there chasing me..... he remained "distant".
- when i got into areas where there were more NPCs and bases - he vanished, but on the next run ... he appeared in range again..... same game - in range.... but always far enough away so i never knew who he was and waht he was about. - all i knew was that he was "red" - and possibly dangerous....
- scariness was applied by uncertainty.... for 2 runs - i did not know what was there lurking for me - but i knew that he was fully in control of the situation by knowing where i was, and he let it transpire that he could "get close" whenever HE wanted ... no matter what i tried.
- on the forth run .... he finally got close - unleashed a barrage of fire, - which was ( amusingly ) intentioanly NOT aimed to hit - ..... laughed ... and left.
- waht he did was show me that if he had wanted to destroy my ship ... he could have done so ... no matter what i had tried.
- after that.... even the sight of him on the far scanners made me change my route.
no shot ever hit me.... no demand was uttered, no damage was done. - yet his roleplay as a madman who was still in control - was done pretty well.
You can not shoot a transport below 50% shield until you RP with him, and shooting him to almost death before giving a demand is abusing the rules imo, and possible PvP abuse.
I would personally file a report against someone if they did that to me.
Admins would laugh at it as they've said so long as some role play has occurred you're free to bring them to within an inch of their life, but not kill them until you've made a demand and given them time to respond.
