Hi--as a relatively new player I wanted to make an observation and suggestion that might be helpful.
Bearing in mind that I was not familiar with all the personalities at the time, I found it very fun when the Nomad Keepers started raiding New York. What made it even more interesting is at the same time Jeanne of the Xenos appeared and the SA/LSF started drumming for all warships to be registered. Adding to the intrigue were the lawfuls talking about the new administration of "President Powell" and the like.
I had assumed these were admin initiated or collaborative actions and thought they were brilliant ideas with a ton of potential--like a campaign storyline provided to organized factions by the admins.
I realize now that it was mostly coincidence that these things happened together and that they were more personality driven actions (good ones though!).
It would be great, if the admins--working with the disciplined factions here--and even individuals, developed campaign storylines.
Oniros made a post about do we need game moderation and I think we could benefit from it. Not admins literally telling players how to play day by day--but by giving them timelined "assignments" and missions for rp.
The Harvesters are one of the groups pulling off self moderated rp very well and I thought the Keepers were doing the same ( miss those raids on Liberty darn it).
Basically, admins (perhaps working very secretly with key, trusted players) can develop a "timeline of events and actions".
Scripted rumors could be "leaked in game". Invasions or raids could be staged to occur at certain places and times, factions could be given goals, etc. etc.
I know this occurs on a small scale with players themselves but there is so much demand to "explain that rp!" and "who said you can do that!?" that it is hard for groups to keep things veiled to maintain suspense and to maintain momentum--an admin approved activity eliminates all that. Perhaps a way to pm campaign events privately to admins for consideration and possibly implementation could be developed?
It would be great if the Keepers had been told to raid Liberty as a terror tactic and recruit spies and secret allies there. or if "President Powell's" military reserve registration was actually a hit list to be taken out to pave the way for a Nomad invasion. Perhaps the Xenos--under Jeanne's "prophetic" guidance were actually trying to warn liberty of the coming storm.
That sort of thing would be great fun. maybe a calendar could be developed and off the board and out of game collaboration could be done to develop things like this.
I know it's easier to say than to do but thougyht I would throw it out there. It gives direction and structure and let's people really buy into rp instead of saying, "that's not my rp".
Ouch very wrong forum to post my dear Chief Arbitrer !
"Perfection, honesty, devotion" "Immortality is our subconscious main concern" "To change the system, you have to be inside the system and play by the rules"
Tinkerbelle, its not admins job to write player's RP. Thats why you are here ... You are all more than capable
of organizing your own events if you feel that is needed. The admins can police said events if its felt it needs
it. But that is all ... Like we don't have quite enough to do already.

agreed. on a side note, id also like to point out, its not upto the admins always, its upto the players to actualy get an RP going. look at that thread about the corsair/outcast/nomad/zoner thing. it just happened by chance, and developed into a full blown RP.
atm, the admins are piled with way too much work, what with handling such a huge database, the crashes, hackers, and whatnot. they are so busy, they aint got the time to even get on THEIR chars always. i mean hell, when was the last time i saw glock out? i kinda miss him >.>
most of the facions follow their roleplay, they indicated, while the independants have their own RP, which when mingled with the general public can lead to some very good RP. i dont think that an admin said: do this and this for RP, to half the stuff that happens, though they do regulate any explicit content:P

the rumours are on bases as pieces of new articles, etc. while RP events are being done left right and center. also, if i seem to misunderstand your point, feel free to correct me:)
Oh, and don't forget a singularly odd AI in that list, frozen.
I agree that a timeline would be nice. Once I get the time, I may just make one for the history to add to my site.

Why dont the Admins actually take part in some events. other than in thiere private chars.
Some FUN!! based stuff like hunt the Admin haha. Not quite the exact sort of activities i meen. But its just an example.
I meem actually get involved with the players in some sort of RP events.
Obviously i dont think they should design the events. I think the players on the server do a good job of that already.
But couldnt we have like a Hall of Fame match-up. Between some of the better players. With say somthing like 2 Admins per Team or somthing. Pitting each of thiere Knowledge of the game against each other. And see whos Team comes out on top.
Just a sugestion. Maybe a stupid one. But its also one that can help with getting to know the people you are looking after all this time. And also adding a little enjoyment into things when you lot are on Admin duty.

Uh-uh. It would turn into "Admins hunting players" type game. Had that happen once after a friday night RoS/TBH fight, Bulldog chased me across Eta with his Admin char. :nono:
i don t think admins should meddle into a playermade storyline.
but what would be useful ( allthough players could to it themselves, too ) is a events that happened on different levels of "importance" - like local events and global events.
for example - the RM THB war could be considered a global event, which outcame could have shaped the server.
while the recent attack of OPG on Cambridge would rather be a local event, which would not change much, no matter who won or lost.
for that - someone like a gamemaster ( GM ) would be helpful, - not a person with powers of admin level - but just with an unbiased view of things who can evaluate forces of factions involved, actually tell what factions should be involved and make sure that things to well. ( more a guide / spectator ) who has a general picture of the history ( how it came to the incident ) and how the consequences are being RPed.
such a position must not be a fixed person, but could be a different person for each global event. - of cours that involves someone with a lot of time to actually HAVE an unbiased overview aswell as a good understanding of the rules, the factions and sirius history ( aswell as written ingame aswell as on-forum rumors )
but then - the community isn t dumb here - and players can make that up among themselves pretty well ( if they really want to )
only one thing would be nice - to "paint" events that are really global and could really change something each mod-update.
so, if the THB had won in frankfurt, - it would have been nice if corsair NPCs had been placed in frankfurt.
