Oh guys! Seems noone of you knows why the hell FL IFF need!
You want to stay independ pirate, but you cant be a pirate, withouth kill. Every NPC kill will change your rep into two ways in same time. After killing note amout of them, your rep can be full green, for exaple with Lane Hackers. But what to do? I dont want to have flashing Lane Hacker or Liberty Rogue at my rep.
Here we got solution- make Freelancer IFF, so no other IFF would appear at you. So putting FL IFF means that you have no IFF at all.
' Wrote:I dont know why its optional. IFF is 99% of the game. Manipulating IFF is abuse of game mechanics IMO.
Exactly - this game is 99% about flashing transponder codes at each other.
God forbid someone isn't really what he appears to be at first glance.
Cause we all know how hard it is to use a scanner.
' Wrote:Not sure why independent pirate would want to show off he is a pirate soon as he comes within 10k range. Counter-productive for piracy itself...
I would use it, since I want to Rpeeee with it.
On the same level why would a Liberty Rogue use a Rogue IFF? That's pretty dumb if you think about it.
Why would Hacker use hacker IFF? Or Molly a Molly IFF and so on and on.
' Wrote:Let me break it down for you in street terms.
If you're a gang member you want to be flashing your gang colors/signs on your turf and the turf of your enemies.
If you're a bank robber the last thing you'd do is walk around with a sign that says bank robber.
But I'd guess YOU would wouldn't you?
Generic unlawful don't have to indicate you are a pirate. It could indicate you are a freelancer working for unlawfuls, thus gaining their trust easier, it could indicate you are loco terrorist that is after monkeys with 3 legs.
I honestly don't understand what's the problem for people to have generic unlawful IFF if no one is forced to use it. If you don't want it - fine don't use it, I don't see a reason to not let others use it though.
' Wrote:Dude, just because you changed your opinion about it doesn't mean you should start the 10th+ topic about it. You pretty much have nothing new to say except "I changed my mind, lets start yet another discussion all over again".
' Wrote:Exactly - this game is 99% about flashing transponder codes at each other.
Those "flashing transponder codes" are what makes you green red nuetral unknown. It's what makes other players respond to you. So yes it's the basis for 99% of the game.

God forbid you should actually be red to somebody on scanner. They might turn around, or chase you, or something.
Ever see a Red Hessian NPC flashing Junker IFF? I only see players do it. Hello OORP exploit
