I got told off for starting new threads on this topic, so I'd better revive an old one
Would it be possible to introduce an optional generic unlawful IFF? I am sick and tired of running around announcing to people that hey I am a pirate, and still get PM'ed and // about my Freelancer IFF all day long. I also think /ignore is anti-social and detrimental to the multiplayer aspect of the mod.
It's true that it makes sense to don a Freelancer / unaffiliated IFF, but newer players get really confused and frustrated about it, and I can totally understand that.
Are you a Pirate? If so, slap that Pirate ID on.
Are you a Smuggler? If so, isn't there a Smuggler ID to wear?
Are you both? If so, why are you pirating in a hauler, or hauling in a fighter? Alternately, why are you flying Junker ships without a Junker ID?
What gaps aren't covered by existing IDs?
Most actions have lawful and unlawful equivalents - Is there a flip-side Generic Lawful ID, or a need for one?

Hm ok, so I'll have to make up with myself if I want to pay x amount of millions to make traders happier. Not really sure I'm down with that, it's not really a sound solution.
So back to the original topic, would a Generic Unlawful IFF be a possibility? Mandatory or optional, either is fine with me.
I don't know whats the problem with the usage of Freelancer IFF. Its tricky and does not make every trader jump off the trade lane 30 k away from you.
It's their own fault that they do not scan your ship when you are acting suspicious like shooting down a lane...

And who's fault is that they can't grow a pair and deal with the fact not everything is really what they look like at first? Just ignore them, they'll learn sooner or later that they'll have to keep an open eye out for everything Freelancer IFF'd.
Well it's not so much about who's fault it is and whatnot. I don't like leaving other players with a feeling of foul play, even if they are wrong, and if I try to imagine what it is like being a new player, it must be very confusing and annoying - we need new players, so how about making things less confusing and annoying for them, which in turn makes things less annoying for those in the same position as me? If it is an optional IFF, it wouldn't interfere with pirates that prefer the "disguise" of a Freelancer IFF.
I am also not entirely sure about the success rate being increased with a non-hostile IFF. Traders are traders, lazy and profit-oriented. When I'm camping lanes using an outcast ship, it feels like I manage to catch just as many/few traders, but that's a different discussion.
How about making the fugitive IFF available free of charge and optional, then? If it is red to most lawfuls, it can solve things easily.
