Hey guys,
today i've got a Hardware related question. I've bought a Dell Inspiron 15r SE
Reviews say it should be quite nice for gaming etc, however the Laptop is not using the right GPU for games.
Inspirons have two GPUs, an Intel HD 4000 onboard chip and a Radeon 7730/7750 m dedicated GPU.
Two days of Internet research brought to my attention that Switchable Grapics Adapters are a pain in the butt for some people. It's not possible to benchmark them correctly.
And although i've installed the latest version of the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) - which should assign a GPU to each task - I do not think my Radeon is doing the slightest bit.
If anybody had similar problems or happens to know how to get this baby working (a tutorial, tool, correct driver) please let me know.
i guess it's the same thing with optimus tech (nvidia)
go to cataclysm controler (if it's still called like tha) and force the gpu to work with every aplication you run
The GPU can't be forced to work with every application on Dell computers, it's made like that by design.
There is no option for this neither in CCC nor my BIOS.
I have a similar issue with a Radeon HD 7690M card that is switchable with an Intel GPU. Frankly, AMD's software is pretty poor compared with Nvidia, and basically the card switching wasn't even working for anything.
Long story short, I went into the BIOS and changed the Switchable Graphics setting from Dynamic to Static. This forces the CCC software to permit you to choose whether you're using the high-performance GPU or the power-saving GPU.
Anyway try to flash your bios. Every bios should have such an option.
BIOS is updated and flashed to the max...
I've actually managed to flabbergast the Technical Support agent because I could tell ahead most of his suggested Solutions for my problem.
Oh and Echo. I -really really- wish i could do the same for my Computer, but i guess you have either an HP or an ACER. Both brands allow to installa A10/A10 update on ther insyde BIOS. That version allowes the user to force the use of dedicated GPUs.
However there is no such option on DELL computers.
