Independent Systems are those systems that lie between the main houses. These systems are typically considered to be under the protection of the adjacent houses, but are not directly governed by them. While being relatively safe to travel due to occasional house patrols, they still provide a safe haven for various political and criminal elements in the houses, like the Xenos, Liberty Rogues and Lane Hackers. These systems also house some notable Freeports.
