Our player database right now is larger than ever (almost 3000 characters). To clear the player files from inactive players and players who left the server for good, two types of regular wipes will be performed.
1. Weekly wipes of characters that were online for less than 10 minutes
Please ensure that your character has stayed in space for 11 minutes or more.
If you think that your character was deleted by mistake (for example, you were online for half an hour, but character was gone), you may contact me and request refund.
2. Monthly wipes of characters that did not appear online for 40 days or more
Ensure that your old characters that you still need log in to server at least once in a month. This will help you to avoid this wipe.
Note that it's not important for how long will you log in. For example, if the character was online for 2 minutes 47 days ago, it will not be wiped. If the character was online for 12 hours 61 days ago, it will be deleted.
We cannot exclude selected characters so that they will not be wiped. The wipes apply to everyone, even including the administrators.
3. Special wipes
Wipes that server administrators pre-announce (for example, full wipes if necessary for new mod version, or 1-month wipe if our player database will be growing too quickly).
Such wipes will be announced 2-4 weeks before the wipe on this forum.
When the beta will be installed serverside, the PvP by agreement rule will no longer be active. Instead, new PvP rules will be put into effect. The new rules can be found here: http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=14252
Server name will have "RP" added to it, so the whole name will be
Discovery Freelancer RP 24/7
All faction creations/faction changes are *FROZEN*. This means no new factions can be created, and factions cannot change their set ups until we sort these problems on Discovery 24/7 out. We will be doing MAJOR house cleaning soon, and we will be making stricter rules for faction creation.
The systems thing.. I know a lot of people want their systems. Claiming a system is being frozen until the rules/regulations are sorted out, but I have to say this.
If you plan to submit a system.. then by all means do so. HOWEVER Igiss has stated that it is NOT a good idea to make them yourself. Why ? Cause it's 10 times harder to integrate someone else's work than it is for him to do it himself. So if you want a system, PLEASE submit an idea to him and he'll design the system. Don't go out of your way to make them and submit them as there is zero guarantees they'll even be used. This comes from the man himself, not me.
So again..
System Claiming and Faciton creation is FROZEN (i.e. not possible to do so) until further notice.
Discovery modification for Freelancer have won the Simulation Genre Award of Mod of the Year-2006 (MOTY-2006), a modding contest run by ModDB.com website each year. This achievement became possible thanks to votes of ModDB visitors and members. Final decisions were made by ModDB editors.
That's how Discovery was described in Genre Awards listing:
"Freelancer was a fun game, but after playing for a few hours, there's really nothing left to do. Luckily, Discovery Freelancer is ready to fill in the blanks. Coming in with a colossal amount of custom content, it really extends the game into new realms of replayablity. Really, playing vanilla Freelancer, then comparing it with Discovery Freelancer is like comparing apples with lots and lots of huge, juicy apples. So much more, so much better, but the same taste and feel that we know and love."
2006 was surely a successful year for our mod, and this award is well-deserved: latest 4.82 version of Discovery was undeniably the best Discovery so far, downloaded more than 20000 times in less than 2 months! In addition to that, Discovery gained majority of votes in the TLR's Informal Poll for your favorite Mod (http://lancersreactor.com). Poll was opened in December 2006 and continues until now.
In 2007, we are looking forward to improve the mod even further. Expect the best, and stay with Discovery!
