Actually if it was up to me I'd make all strong ships -official- faction only (and approved indies). VHF, certain LFs, bombers and gunboats. And Transports above 2500 as well. Now that would be interesting, mmm...

Giving the power of resricting their ships to the factions would actually be a very good idea IF the factions were composed of absolutely ininfluenceable, fair, tolerant, moderate players. And let's be realistic, that's not the case. Factions are composed of very good players for the most part, good enough to have power over players who willingly joined their fation, but never good enough to have power over all players. Players good enough for that have a name : admins. Even if MOST factions only had admin-class players in their leadership, there would still be a few (maybe not much, one or two is enough) who would have a selfish, or arrogant, or radical, or elitist, or a bit of all that leadership. And what happens then to the players who want a ship from these factions ? They have to change their ship, thus their rp, effectively limiting possibilities.
Can this community pay such a high price to get rid of "lolwutters" ? (I won't deny i'm an occasional lolwutter, though not in pvp, but that's not the point). And if this rule is implemented, i am pretty shure that the diminution of the player base would be much more than 50 percent, because one way or another, people like freedom. As Xoria, quoted by Wood, already said, the only way to make it fair would be to give the players the possibility to appeal their case if their request is refused by the faction, with a final admin decision. But as Xoria also said, because faction mambers are not saints, there would be so many appeals that the admins would be overwhelmed.
So please, for the sake of Discovery, kill, report, sanction, harass and mock lolwutters if you want, but do not factionalize ships.

Anyhow, seeing that Capital Ships for the most unlawfuls are now Special RP only I'd like to see that for all Battleships. Yes, Navy, Order or Outcasts...et cetera, et cetera

The bs i own is not unlawful, so i basically have no idea of what i'm talking about here, but i'll answer anyway. I guess that unlawful factions are supposed to be smaller, and actually, only the hispanian pirates have battleships. So i'd say it's logical that smaller pirate factions need RP to get their battleships, as they don't build them. Now if the Corsairs and the Outcasts are penalized RP wise in comparison to the other big factions, theres indeed a problem. But i know some players who have independant Outcast... er, zeppelins ? And they raid with them.

This is a warship we are talking about.
In 800 A.S. Liberty had 4 Battleships, and no more, at all.
The Order Osiris was the first Battleship in the Borderworlds/Edge Worlds.
People shouldn't be able to buy a capital ship just because they feel like it.
The only capital ship of mine doesn't exist yet, or may never, because I special requested it, because I worked for it. And I'm okay with that.
