RE: Admin Notice: Player Owned Bases - Nexus Ark - 08-16-2013 If money is really an issue with the rollback, get your butts to join a trading faction like Bowex and Kishiro instead of moaning how long it takes to solo trade. Group trading and mining (sometimes jumping) is certainly MORE ENTERTAINING and LESS EFFORT, while gets you heaps of MONEY MUCH QUICKLY if you can be bothered to jump the first hurdle of applying. Not to mention the official trading factions certainly need an activity boost in this server i believe. Edit: You don't even have to mine yourself, I'm sure someone in the faction would happily fill your ship up for fun or in exchange for some activity RE: Admin Notice: Player Owned Bases - Vipera Berus - 08-16-2013 (08-16-2013, 05:15 PM)Nexus Ark Wrote: If money is really an issue with the rollback, get your butts to join a trading faction like Bowex and Kishiro instead of moaning how long it takes to solo trade. An alternative is there are several JD IV pilots who will jump you to places for a fee. It's all I got, but it helps not. Unfortunately, we needed hackers to move things up. Why not use this opportunity and make it safe to all that little cheats like lagy dogfighters, jitters, vertical syncs, ore yield boosting, double click this or that... name it... If we rollback, let's do it well. Let's make it first and last one. I'm sick of logic: If we did it, we can do it again. All you can do is adapt and move with the times while Admin handle things. I hope we will never have to adapt on cheats. But, I'm not so sure now. We are just bunch of enthusiasts playing one beautiful, but free SF mod, facing a challenge of much higher level. How long can devs put efforts so big, for so little reward? By your opinion, on scale 1-10, how secure server was and how will it be after roll back? We are just bunch of enthusiasts playing one beautiful, but free SF mod, facing a challenge of much higher level. - In answer to you first question, I would have to disagree, the effort devs and admins put in brings BIG Rewards in the form of a Freelancer Server that is still going strong 5 years after Microsoft pulled the plug on the Global Server effectively tombstoning 95% of FL servers within 2 - 3 years, but disco is still here and that is something to be proud of and protected, also disco is a unique gaming experience! - Secondly, in all honesty I cannot rate between 1 to 10 on the servers state of 'security', why well I am not an Admin so I cannot examine precisely the safety measurements in place to fix / prevent this from happening again. The roll back is only to wipe any irregularities in player / player base data that were generated during the recent hack on-slaught, What is key to security is to find the exact means by which the hackers gained access and alter game files to make them vulnerable to attack. Then plug those holes so it wont happen again. It is possible to increase security measures but this process could take some time depending how deep the flaws in security go when they were hacked. No, online game no matter how firewalled it is, is impenetrable. RE: Admin Notice: Player Owned Bases - Hone - 08-16-2013 Also this isnt the first rollback anyway. Also I have to wonder, to those saying theyd rather the server was shut down than rolldback, why? You could just not play until the rollback and achieve the same result. Because they think that shutting down won't make they lose their progress. A smaller percentage also believes that it will make the server magically unbreakable. Everyone keeps complaining about a possible rollback, which is understandable for they would lose a lot of work they have put their time and effort into. On the other hand, such a rollback would affect most of the community in the same way, so it is "balanced" in a way. But the point of view everyone should take it from is what Jack wrote: take this, what you might lose, as the only payment for the Admin and Developer team, for all they do for us. It is really sad that people only keep complaining, always can find handful of others' mistakes, but hardly ever show some gratitude and respect. All money can be reaquired, all ships rebuilt. But trying to bring back someone, who had volunteered to spend their time to do A LOT for us for such a long time, but left because noone really appreciated his work and effort, that my friends, is quite damn difficult. |
