Faction Proposal - Coin - 09-16-2008 ' Wrote:I actually like this idea. i thought about this, but came to the conclusion that chasing a pie-rat away from a lane would mean that he could loop back over the sun and hit a different part of the lane. but chasing him out of the system makes the system safe (for a while...). Also, we would have no authority in systems without trade lanes. at all. ' Wrote:Also if losing a fight you should flee, you don't have the resources or reward to risk your life and ship To quote Monty Python: RUN AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! ' Wrote:My advice: choose Ageira or freelancer: Lances for free, Kirosho is KoS in Bretonia ' Wrote:if you take a kishiro tag, you wont be welcome in bretonia. Ageira owns the rights to the lanes, but rheinland defaulted on the repayments. Getting a Freelancer tag is a lot of work... and would mean that a whole lotta rep-fixing goin on. Dropping missions destabilises the server. Hell, we're gonna be unpopular with pirates, and a few house factions, but i'm not sure that i want EVERY player to blame another server crash on a WT trying to get a Freelancer IFF. Suggestions? Faction Proposal - Coin - 09-16-2008 ' Wrote:I have a question about the two lines I quoted above. First you said that smugglers would be unfriendly to you, followed up with that Kishiro/Ageria doesnt care about what cargo is carried. Now heres where my question lies. If you are going to be Kishiro/Ageria IFF, Then why care what cargo you are helping to escort? If Kishiro/Ageria doesn't care then I think the faction shouldn't either. The answer lies in a reversal of the concept of :'The enemy of my enemy is my friend' Smugglers buy contraband (cardi-cola, marijuana, etc) in (mostly) pirate bases. the exceptions are those commodities that House Govts have outlawed (bretonia, liberty) due to the current political climate. The relationship to smugglers would be predicated by: 1. their close relations to pirates 2. there are fewer trade lanes in pirate systems, and fewer pirate bases than lawful bases in house systems - and as such we'd struggle to find a reason to be escorting someone from there. For example VIP-AO from cambs to Sig17 would be completely out of our mandate, but prisoners-diamonds from cambs-new berlin would be within our mandate 3 the poor relations between smugglers and house militaries/police the pirates would be our enemies - and the smugglers friends. The house lawfuls would be our friends, but enemies of the smugglers. We wouldn't really care about the cargo - we're not police - but the route and the connections of the smuggler would give us cause for concern Faction Proposal - Bjorn - 09-16-2008 Um, fine idea. But i dont see long life of it. Also it is a matter of time before you are called siriuswide police and shoot down. Faction Proposal - Coin - 09-16-2008 ' Wrote:Um, fine idea. But i dont see long life of it. Also it is a matter of time before you are called siriuswide police and shoot down. as i said - the role of the police is to enforce the law - which includes smuggling, which ship/equipt you have. We'd be sublimly indifferent to all that. We'd only be able to operate in systems with trade lanes. which is like keeping the turnpikes safe, and ignoring the backroads. I don't want to see this degenerate into the 'Sirius Peace Corps'. Helping new players, keeping the trade lanes open, chasing pirates outa the systems... but not enforcing any laws. Only by strict adherence to our mandate will we avoid this. However, if the pirates are attacking us, the traders can trade... As to long life - this clan was first started on Jolt in 2002, with periods of activity on NiMA and FLU 24-7. The rollcall of past and present members exceeds 250. So, we've been around for a while now, but have suffered a drastic reduction in membership recently due to that pesky stuff called Real-Life. Dammit. At least on Freelancer. The WT used to be very active on Raw server also, with 10+ members online at a time. Catfish and then later Excalibur did a good job doing what they did. But here on Discovery what youd be doing is killing some of the RP opportunities for traders hiring escorts, and local police engaging pirates. Lets face it; there are not a lot of things to do as a police force if someone else is fighting off the criminals in your ZOI. If traders want protection while passing through systems like Magellan and Kepler they should be hiring escorts. Having free escorts all the time will mean even less work for those who are looking for pay. I liked the WT a lot as a group, but I just dont see the White Tiger role play as being a benefit to Discovery overall. Perhaps adapting the WT to a Mercenary unit that hires on as escorts would better fit Disco. Instead of offering your services for free; being willing to work for lower pay might encourage more traders to hire you, while bringing some healthy competition to escort prices. Faction Proposal - Coin - 11-07-2008 Have been busy, and have changed the original concept a bit. Instead of Ageria/Kishiro, we are now affiliated to interspace commerce, flying with a Military ID. This fixes quite a lot of the problems about having ageira tags in rhineland etc., as there is an IC base in all four of the home systems (I'm guessing that there isn't one in Frenchie land - Yet). The Diplomacy with smugglers will be neutral, and although the Military ID says 'can scan for contraband', we're not going to be running around New York looking for Cardi. We'll be friendly with all houses and corporations, neutral to smugglers, junkers/Hogosha and the order, and enemies of pirates and the nomad-infested ones. The ship and equipt lists are still being compiled on a trial and error basis, but they are obviously limited to what can be bought on lawful bases. ZOI will be restricted to the core systems: rule of thumb; no trade lane, no WT. The free escort idea has been kicked into touch, with the exception of IND or Independents with IC tags: As the Military wing of IC, we would ostensibly be drawing pay from IC, and so would not charge our own. At the moment, the WT Clan now boasts of 4 members, with three recruits in training, so we're not around enough to seriously dent the revenue of BH, and escorts will be unavailable if there are pirates to pop. A full RP background is written up, and whilst we have the fundage to go official, I'm reluctant to go for this until the next mod comes out, as ships/weapons etc may change, leading to massive editing. yep, i'm that lazy. Faction Proposal - cal823 - 11-09-2008 Make it so that the faction doesnt operate in house areas? will stop you from being called "sirius wide police" will aslo stop you from pissing of the house police. Make your goal to be to plug the gap that the lack of police in the neutral space makes (most sane pirates camp the lanes in non house space anyway) Faction Proposal - Coin - 11-09-2008 Cal823 09 November, 2008 Quote:Make it so that the faction doesnt operate in house areas? will stop you from being called "sirius wide police" will aslo stop you from pissing of the house police. Make your goal to be to plug the gap that the lack of police in the neutral space makes (most sane pirates camp the lanes in non house space anyway) NY is busy enough without another bunch of 'lawdawgs' there. NB has very few lawfuls, in comparison to the unlawfuls that infest the sigma13/nb hole. New Tokyo and New London are usually pretty quiet. Whilst we will be based on the Interspace bases, we wont be patrolling there - it would be like standing guard outside a police station. We won't be policing anything - smugglers are not our concern, and its not gonna be up to us to police the relevant rules of each house system - that would be a complete nightmare, trying to memorise what is contraband in every single house. Upsetting the house police and militaries is not our objective, but as you say, it is rather to plug the gap in the border worlds - magellan, the sigmas, the omegas (with trade lanes) and the taus (to some extent). we have already been active in this role, chasing pirates out of Sig 13, New Tokyo (no house police available), getting pwnt by lane hackers in Mag, pwning lane hackers in mag. Where we are in a system that has house police in evidence, we always ask for permission to engage. when no permission is forthcoming, we back off |
