I'm not sure about that, since the list is also used to switch to private channels. I know, a big amount of players don't RP in group and private channels, but are they definitely considered ooRP/meta? Reminds me the 'long range scanners' issue between the KNF and the LN factions, when the LN decided to fly all over through Kusari without a care. And the KNF caught them with the help of the Player List. Nothing happened. I guess it's kind of a grey area, and maybe it should remain that way. For example, would you expect to not be seen if you use the lanes and get in many bases' scanner range as you move through a house? If you're a wanted criminal, the authority will be on alert, and helpless civilians will shake and cry for help. You also do not move another house's fleet through a house using their lanes without being caught, waving the SPESS 'MURRICAN flag. If you were being careful and using the holes, staying away from places where you could be seen, fair enough... There could be room for complaining. Common sense. RE: Definition of metagaming - The Savage - 03-26-2016 Using player list is a double-edged sword, very useful when used in right hands in hands of majority - yet can be used as abusement tool by a few. We cannot get rid of it completely, as it would bring more harm than positives. RE: Definition of metagaming - Sturmwind - 03-26-2016 Old definition is better. 1) It's useless to create drama about things that don't actually influence the gameplay in any way. 2) Who decides what information is available to your character? It's totally vague. Also, back when the server had 200 people constantly online, you had plenty of chances for encounters without looking at the player list. Now you don't. RE: Definition of metagaming - Kauket - 03-27-2016 Instances where using the player list for locating people IN ROLEPLAY is fine - (note: this is subjective): >Home, Guard systems. (Not actually guard systems, I'm talking about systems like Omicron Mu, Alaska, Rho. etc which are highly secured. ) >Nomads in their home system of Iota, 99, 90 >People using the lanes/gates. (Of course, TLAGSNET is a thing. ) Though, of course, you have things such as information via word of mouth, or rumors too. RE: Definition of metagaming - SnakThree - 03-27-2016 Another idea: * Metagaming: Using information beyond the limits of what is available to your character in malicious way. RE: Definition of metagaming - SnakeLancerHaven - 03-27-2016 or just add that line to the other one, so both is metagaming. RE: Definition of metagaming - thisDerius - 03-27-2016 Each member sees metagaming in their own way. This thread is becoming a never endnding cycle. RE: Definition of metagaming - nOmnomnOm - 03-27-2016 Looking at player list is not meta. If you think so then you can fly forever alone. Your life. Your boredom.
