Cruisers and battle ships should not be flown on there own, there should be at least 2 fighters and a gunboat as escorts. A lone battleship or cruiser are sitting ducks, for bombers and gunboats.

it's not the problem with Gunboat or Cruiser..it's your skill level...a BC could take down like 2 Corsairs Gunboat probably 3..it's not that hard actually..

what "should" and what "should not" be - or what "ought" to be. is up to every single player himself. - there is no lore that suggests that a battleship, a cruiser, a destroyer, a bomber, a light fighter cannot or can fly effectivly on their own.
you have a valid view about lone warships - but it is just as valid as someone saying "they are powerful enough ( in RP ) to hold their own - without any escorts". nither is right or wrong. - so we cannot blame lone warships. - for we do not know what sci-fi philosophy this person follows.
maybe its like star trek, where warships fly very well all on their own. - maybe its more like Farscape where they are surrounded by dozens of fighters.
the fact that they are sitting ducks is not related to what they "should" do - its related to what precautions a character would do to avoid such situations. - but thats again up to the character / player ( if we re serious about RP, its entirely about the char ).

in real life they dont have the power to take down one of them classes(Crusier, Dessie, BC) and at a low price, why doesnt everyone get a Gunboat and no one gets captial ships anymore since the gunboat class is so great??? the gunboat is MENT to be aint-fighter not aint Cruiser.(unless you are adding in submarines in the next patch)

RL comparisons never work. We use naval ship names out of convenience... So here it comes down to skill. Which is directly affected by which way the nerfbat swings from mod to mod. You don't like the way ships perform now....just wait, something might get changed for better or worse.
Just wait til there are real spaceships to provide a basis for comparison to teh internets spaceships.

I remember reading somewhere on the forums that cruisers were a pretty useless ship class. Less attack power than a Battleship, less maneuverability than a Gunboat. They have the worst of both worlds.
And as for us Rogues, we make do with the resources we got, and thats what makes us mighty! We don't need the funding of a billion credit corporation to build our capital ships. We just find ourselves a rusty bucket, slap on some duct tape and staple some turrets on.

a GB can own a cruiser cause he is more agile
a cruiser cont move very much while fighting cause it moves to slow
also the setup is important
an antifighter cruiser has no chance against an anti cap. ship GB
3rd and last point..
a n00b in a cruiser is a easy target for a GB captain who make 10 fight s in one hour

... like the outcast destroyer?:P( now now - i m sure the outcasts are not happy about you talking about one of their best ships as if it was a rusty bucket with turrets slapped on .. )

Gunboats solo arent too hard.
Gunboats in pack are a nightmare.
Gunboats with ace pilots are a nightmare
So, no big deal. But some are very good indeed.
