I hate to say it, but Xoria (No offense intended..) has basically ruined all forms of trade. You can trade you butt off, and make nowhere near as much money in 4.84. i didn't even do the diamonds/niobium run, and I was making 60 million an hour. Add the fact that you can't make money as fast to the fact that EVERYTHING is more expensive, capital ships especially, and you will take an entire month just to make 100 million if you can only play on the weekends, and you only trade for 3 hours at the most.

I personaly don't see -why- we need a virtual economy like this. Discovery is still a game, no matter how roleplaytastic it might be. You up the ship prices, lower the incomes, and it automaticly takes the fun away. Hell, I don't want to have to trade for an hour or more to get over 30 million to setup a little figther with nothing but the bare basics.

Like this, it's becoming more frustrating than amusing.

It's because Xoria wants trading to be "realistic" in the sense that there is absolutely no Point A <-> Point B trade routes anymore. Along with that, they must be long and tedious, and they must make little profit. Quite frankly, I'm fed up with it. Sure, I wouldn't mind having to trade an hour long 5 station trade route, but to make only 25-30 million out of it? Forget it. I'm doing codie collecting to make cash now, and even that isn't much of a profit unless you find a buyer of the weapons.

I will now go and make me a '2mill or die' pirate....

Tip for all Bretonian traders: Watch out for the Corsair Here_be_Dragons. He will pirate you for an outrageous and PvP abusing 6 million, and will dual nova you if you refuse.. >.

Well, doing trading isn't that profitable when you properly roleplay your routes and interactions with other players, in order to get that bloody expensive flagship, with some decent armour you wanted.

And you know what? Some lolflake could grind those credits with no RP at all, in a shorter period, get his lovely carrier or whatnot, and start pwning people with no RP. Or 'engagnaging' RP.

It saddens me.

I somewhat agree. I wouldn't say "ruined" all the forms of trading, but certainly detracted from them, yes. I found trading in a really big route enjoyable in 4.84. It included all of the best one-way routes and still made 60~ million credits an hour, trading in slaves, artifacts, luxury food, engine components, boron and so on. I visited every sector of Sirius (every house, each cluster region except the independant words between Kusari and Liberty). It was a risky circular run across Sirius, but it was really fun because I met every single kind of person there was to meet. Finding a good escort was easy too (and this made it even more fun to trade, though the agreed amount detracted a lot from my profits).

So, I numbercrunch a new route for 4.85 and test it out. 30~ million credits an hour, 40 if you pay attention and concentrate, which I never do when I trade. Added to that, it went to Gallia (and of course, we can't really trade there yet), but also, there were no illegal goods to ship in that route, and I blockade ran twice (Rheinland to Liberty, then back to Rheinland). (15~ stop route.)

Then the new beta came out. I numbercrunched a quick route for Elgato, which is probably even less than 30 million an hour.

The thing is, I try to find the best continuous trade route (meaning no going empty anywhere). I have to sacrifice some of the highest paying routes for this, but the efficiency gained for not going empty is more than worth it. Even then, I keep finding some small routes (three stops). I find it impossible to trade on a two/three stop run, so this isn't an option.

Good thing I built up my wealth during 4.84... but even now, I'm running out of cash.

What I'm really concerned about though, is that it's no longer profitable to hire an escort, unless the guy is in a gunboat and supplements his own income by carrying extra cargo along your trade route. This relies on the guy not having armour, either.

Suggestion: Increase the efficiency of all the runs by 15% (shorter ones), 25% (blockade running) and 40% (illegal goods).

Funny, i have reported this 'power trade' route in Delta.

The routes are still profitable but you need to take point now and cannot hide behind some random neutral RP.

I noted there was done a lot of work to balance the routes:
Good work to the ones who did this.

Alright, just to make it clear....

I worked out my route which took my nearly 3 hours untill i managed to make it profitable, in-RP and somehow interesting...
I log on just to see that I now need to do the same s*** again to find me another route.

Any good?
This is not fun!
