Stealth ship things. - Vrouw - 09-19-2009 ' Wrote:I always thought it'd be nice to just have some kind of item which reduces the range an enemy can detect you on scanners, available only to a few select groups... namely the order, nomads, LSF, and wilde.Exactly what I was thinking as I scrolled down. But, I'd say make it so that it replaces a Scanner and gives you the same things as Tenacity said, but only give you a limited range for seeing people as well. Say.. at like, 6k or so. That'd also go great with OPG-Ivan's rule-changing thing about fleeing and having to leave the system. It'd allow much more options for gurella tactics. Stealth ship things. - Bass_masta992 - 09-19-2009 That would be insane for pirates, instant guerilla warfare tactics, since the traders can't see them coming, they have chance to react. It'd be nice for the Xenos when they would like some privacy when talking to the masses. There's always the chance to get a real experienced pirate against a poor armed trader. Quote:Normally you can pick someone up on scanners at 14k, target at 10k, and scan at a max of 4k. With this device, you wouldnt show up on anyone's scanners until you're within 1-2k range. As I was saying. But I do believe 1~2k range is too close. Stealth should be used for crossing enemy territory, and when you do that you will never get THAT close to another ship if you don't want to be seen. And let's remember that most nebula's and belt's affect scanner's proficiency also, so add interference to a 1~2k range and bam, you ARE invisible. Not exactly balanced. The best approach would be reducing the detecting range to about 6k, targetting goes down to about 4k and cargo scanning stays the same. Other than that only light fighters should be able to use it, since anything bigger than that could pretty much abuse the fact that it would help smuggling a LOT. I don't think it'd be hard for anyone with a decent amount of tech to take that whole scanner dampening thing and use it in a device. I really don't. But the fact is, I think the 'cloaking' should be allowed for VHFs and Bombers, as well as anything lower. But not anything larger. Its abusable, but come.. We've already got ganks, Gunboats, seriously. Something like this isn't gonna hurt Traders at all, except for maybe, the small chance that they'll get caught off-guard. Oh, hey, kind of like when they go through a trade lane and suddenly they stop mid-lane? Pirates are -suppose- to use gurella tactics, however, its impossible in Freelancer because of scanners.
