Discovery Wiki - Misleading information - Alex. - 02-01-2010 ' Wrote:wouldn't Freelancer Companion show you the right prices (if they were modified using server-side magic) if you were connected to the Discovery GC Server and in-game? I'm not A&L, but I have a vague understanding on how the system works. FLCompanion reads your FL data files. Problem is, when you connect to a server that is running a certain plugin, and you have a certain client side DLL running to interface with this, Freelancer's memory is changed, but it doesn't change the files - hence things like FLCompanion and FLStat show 'incorrect' information. From what I know... You could have FL loaded up then have a modified version of FLCompanion/FLStat get the information from your computer's memory... But we don't have the source code - at least... Not yet. >:] Discovery Wiki - Misleading information - ArmsAndLegs Guy - 02-01-2010 ' Wrote:A&L... wouldn't Freelancer Companion show you the right prices (if they were modified using server-side magic) if you were connected to the Discovery GC Server and in-game?No, since both FLCompanion and Datastorm works by reading the data from the mod files on your harddisk. And that data is not necessarily the same as the data the server transmits to your client, when you look up commodities on a base in-game. ' Wrote:And here I was thinking they couldn't make trading any worse than it already is...[/rant] Trading is not worse. Trading is as trading should be : An endeavour where you go out and discover what, where and for how much. Not an endeavour where you load a program and asks for the best route, as soon as you get a trading ship. Also, people have been screaming for a live economy in RP, and this is one of the small things that can simulate a live economy. If you want to rant at that, then you are also ranting at the hard work that Cannon and other people, who develop stuff such as FLhook, put in to keep FL alive and which enables this old game to be extended and enhanced in so many ways. A & L Guy. Discovery Wiki - Misleading information - Ketzel - 02-01-2010 Hey if you don't want that tradeship I'll take it. There will be a greater chance the guy you are addressing yourself to see it. And A&L guy, I will got to bed knowing one more thing about disco, I dont really understand why people rant about that, actually, it helps on RP since it gets people away from a route that is overly used. And it also means that we need to rethink what we do with the commodities on the wiki. Since prices are now semi-dynamic. After all it is already simple as hell. Goto a base, buy a comodity/look up where it sell's the most(and if you can land there),go to said base/planet,and sell. Then buy a new product, and repeat. All along, landing at every base/planet you are able to, in order to get a bigger list of buying/selling location's. Hense "DISCOVERING" the best routes to make money on. Plus trading is not always about just making money(yeah i know it is a big part of it) Sometimes it is fun to run a blockade,or smuggle right past the LN...oops did i say that? Or just RP with the "good RP Pirates" out there.(yes i know very few of those, but they do exist). If all you want to do is "make money" go sit in the rocks for about 10 hours and mine. You will be rich, but ready to cut your wrists. As to staff? keep it up. I love hearing people yell when thier power trading route go's away suddenly.;) |
