My Mafic has the mining turret in the rear-firing mount, and I shoot rocks with my forward-firing Debs. Yield is the same.

I can confirm that through my experience with a Mafic with two mining turrets in the rear which are never fired.

To end the speculation: Having the turret mounted is sufficient. The mining turret is pretty good at busting rocks so it's still worth using.
It is my hope that the Basalt will be upgraded for 4.86.
For now enjoy a LF with a torp slot.
