Saw the news...meh...I'm not even gonna comment :(

Japan massive (8.9) quake - Kuze - 03-11-2011

Watching CNN...and the destruction is just massive. Hope the nuclear reactors will be OK...2 were shut down already. Huge tragedy for Japan:(

Japan massive (8.9) quake - Echo 7-7 - 03-11-2011

That's four shut down now. Currently, the most concern is regarding one where the reactor cooling has failed - thankfully there is no radiation or radioactive waste leak.

According to BBC, 44 dead, dozens more missing. An entire train has disappeared somewhere near the coast.

Japan massive (8.9) quake - Korny - 03-11-2011

Crap. Thing is, I was about to go on a trip there soon. Hope they get it back under control quickly, saw a few videos and such...nasty.

The earth can be a real bitch sometimes.

Japan massive (8.9) quake - Mickk - 03-11-2011

This is just a cut/paste from a post I made on BakaBT with the part irrelevant to this forum cut out.

It pretty much sums up what I have to say.

Apparently we have some political people over in Japan right now, but they are all stuck on the 'Bullet Train' somewhere 200-300 km south of Tokyo last I heard.

The after effects don't look so bad, but that is probably because Japan is so 'earthquake aware' that most of the major buildings are built to withstand them, which is a good thing.

They showed parts of the Tokyo area and it all looked pretty normal..... until I realized there were no lights of any sort working.
Apparently all of the nuclear power plants in the area did an 'auto shutdown' when the earthquake hit, which is funny in one way, because those political people I mentioned earlier apparently took a tour of one of the plants the day before and that was explained to them.

Also shown was the sort of damage a tsunami is capable of, even a small one. Helicopter footage showed one in action, everything that wasn't physically bolted down was moving, cars, trucks, not to mention boats of all sizes and literally all kinds of floating rubbish.

To say that the situation over there is 'not good', would be a major understatement, but it looks like the Government over there is on it's toes and getting this sorted as quickly as possible.

Hope everyone over there is ok, not just our Japanese members.

My sympathies go out to them. Heard they lost an entire bullet train. Like gone, it's washed out to sea.

200-300 bodies found in Sendai...says CNN

Japan massive (8.9) quake - Doc Holliday - 03-11-2011

Just read this a few minutes ago. Damn! Also have tsunami warnings for a lot of the Pacific, to include New Zealand....like New Zealand needs more trouble!

I don't know anyone in Japan but still, I pray for their recovery and safety.

It's strange, but the first place I heard about it was on the forum of the site where I get my anime from.

At that point in time there was NOTHING on the 'regular' TV channel where I live, I switched over to SBSNEWS24 (a free to air all news channel) and there it was.
They had a live feed from a local TV network in Japan, NHK I think it was.

The lady doing the reading looked like someone had said, "We need someone to do this now, the regulars aren't here, so you are it!", thrown some makeup on her and put her in front of the camera.

She was doing a fine job of it too, despite the fact she was obviously 'flying by the seat of her pants' as they say.

My folks tell me that the church they go to have 'missionaries' in Japan at the moment, up in Hokkaido, near Sapporo. They are well away from the 'action', so I'm betting they are ok, but Mum is a little concerned.

Oddly, Australia also had a tsunami warning, but then somebody clicked that there is a really big bit of land between Australia and Japan..... it's called New Guinea, so they canceled ours.

On a side note, as soon as I saw NHK, I immediately thought of "Welcome to the NHK"..... odd that.
