It's supposed to run at 3.0 however. With stock cooling. I can get a better one though. I just want to know how to do it.

3000+ doesn't mean 3GHz.

3000+ means equivalent to the Intel Pentium 4 of that generation, running at 3 GHz.

AMD got sued for this.

I see. It's still supposed to run at 3.0. The BIOS settings let me push it to 4.5...However, if I did that, I'd probably want a new PC about 5 seconds later. (boom)

Disregard the BIOS. It may let you push it to 4500, but the CPU won't resist it. The only Single core 64's which could go as high as 2.7-3ghz were the Venice Athlons. The one you have can't do it without liquid cooling or a vapochill. And those solutions are so expensive that it's better (and cheaper) to get a more powerful processor instead.

Ah. Thanks for the info. Newegg doesn't have any socket 754 chips though. Any ides on what would be a good processor for that socket? I'd prefer something dual-core and over 2.4Ghz.

Overclocking my CPU - Korrd - 02-11-2008

That socket is obsolete. You have one of the biggest CPU that can fiton that socket.

Your best course of action would be to upgrade, by getting new mother, ram, gpu and cpu.

That seems a bit in-depth. By that I mean I have a lot of data on my hard drive, about 5 years worth. The GPU is fine, I have an XFX GeForce 7600GT. 1 gig of RAM, was gonna upgrade it anyways... It's not like I'm afraid of completely dismantling a PC and building a new one- That's my life. Ah, well. I'll look around for a good AM2 mobo, dual core proc, 2 gigs of ram, all with an AGP slot. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Don't waste money on AGP. AGP is dead.
Instead, if you are going to upgrade that way, go for a good PCI-e motherboard, DDR2, and a new PCI-e card.

When buying, consider that AMD is good on the mid range market. For a high end CPU, get an Intel C2D.

Overclocking my CPU - Boss - 02-11-2008

I'm not saying I'm gonna waste money on AGP. I'm saying I have an AGP board that does what I ask it to. If I get a new mobo, yes, I'd probably get a PCI-e board. The 7600 would probably go to my brother...

Don't know really anything about overclocking, but good luck and don't blow your computer to bits:)

12.3 ghz?? prove it
