FL on Linux - Unseelie - 02-13-2008 Right...some more background: I have cds and keys for Windows XP sp2, Windows XP 64, Windows 98, Windows ME, and Windows Vista. I am using Ubuntu 7.10 because it offers me features and functionality that Windows cannot compete with(Windows has no drivers for my HDD, and cannot optimally run more than 3 gigs of ram(dunno about vista...but, again, vista) and windows is also extremely vulnerable to malware, also, my plug and play compatibility is much larger than that of windows), and I am sure I can get Freelancer running on it. I have found Cedega to be a waste of time with most games, and that the list of what it does and does not support to be disturbingly misleading. Wine runs FLE excellently, but seems to dislike FL (could be my disc, rather old, and a bit damaged) I am currently trying vmware workstation 6...but that is not exactly my preference. Again, I reiterate my request: If you have an idea, please put it forward. If you know of a path that does not work, put that forward so I don't have to rediscover it. Please do not tell me that It will not work, unless you have exhausted every possible method. @Geisha Maiko if he does it, please do tell me how he did it. FL on Linux - Korrd - 02-13-2008 Hmm. The main problem with running FL on Linux is the DX api. It's windows only, unfortunately. FL not working on Linux is the only thing that is stopping me from going penguin. If I find the way to make it work, I will let you know. FL on Linux - Epholl - 02-13-2008 Here goes a tutorial from a lazy Linux user: 1.) just download the newest wine and run it like youre running other games with wine:D 2.)but that version number is important (look http://winehq.org) He told about configuring FLMM and co. in Win... I think experiments should take place here... FL on Linux - afoofis - 02-14-2008 Well if you got it working on a Hackintosh then please tell me. I would like to install it on that.... FL on Linux - Unseelie - 02-15-2008 So far, on wine, I can install FL, and all of its associated nonsense FLMM, FLE, and they run, but FL does not. working on tweaking it, but I'm betting its just not going to work...DX problems. FL on Linux - DBoy1612 - 02-15-2008 So alright, was reading the thread, and got interested. So I looked around my usual places about DirectX and Linux, found this. http://wine-review.blogspot.com/2007/11/di...-with-wine.html Note, I'm a complete Linux idiot, so I have no idea if that would work... But, thought I might as well post it, let me know what happens. FL on Linux - Korrd - 02-27-2008 I found this on the wine site: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?...on&iId=2504 Interesting non the less, although some bugs still remain. FL on Linux - DCKilla - 02-27-2008 Very interesting Thanks for the link Korrd. Bugs or no bugs it's a step in the right direction. I can't give up windows just yet because of some of the bugs indicated. One eye is always open for a Linux break through in the Freelancer world. I can't hardly wait until I can give up MS windows completely. |
