However, in a combat situation, you aren't allowed to engine kill at cruise-speed and begin shooting. That is against the rules. Thrust speed is 100% encouraged, though.

I was aware that was changed.

I have many FRAPS videos of battleships doing that, and non of those sanctions I posted went through.

Nooooooo!

E-kill is t3h BAD! Makez pplz hard too kheeel! BAN BAN BAN!

[/sarcasm]

Speed is life. As soon as you stop thrusting in e-kill, you're dead meat.

Yeah, in 90% of fights I am just permanently E-Killed with short
thruster pulses.. I almost never fight with engine on..

Well not really true.... if my opponent engages cruise first and I engaged it after.... I can engine kill at cruise and start shooting. => Then he can either

1. Dodge and continue on cruise => he gains a lot of distance

2. Cancel cruise or e-kill and start shooting.

He can't e-kill first and start shooting on me in cruise if I stay in cruise though... since he has to leave system because he cruised.

Since 90% of my fights have been in capships...

E-kill is an absolute must if you want to win against bomber, I use to be able to hit a player fighter/bomber with battlerazors in a cruiser so I know it can be done.

Against another capship, it's not that useful, unless you need to get some range and know they're slower then you are thrusting.

Most of the time I just vary my speed with the mouse wheel, while strafing, with the occasional thruster pulse (assuming I'm in someting smaller then a battleship) to keep them where I want them.

In my limited experiance with fighters, E-killing gets you killed.

Whoa that's an old tactice of mine. I wonder, is it really a rule?

I do it lots, mostly to get off a few CDs, no issues here.

Now E-killing is a viable option for fighting, it keeps your speed at the max high speed for dogfighting...

I however prefer to tap the thrusters, makes my ship harder to hit since my speed goes from 70-thruster speed quite often, throwing off someones aim.

Mind you.. doing this gets me accused of being laggy (on T3 internet.. hah, just wait till I do it while on dialup)

The original game and manual describes this as "Newtonian Physics". As it is a programed function of the original game, I see no reason to worry about taking full advantage of it. Also, you might want to try using your straff left right up and down in conjunction with engine kill or "drifting" it adds a further dynamic to your flight. Simple Vectoring doesn't work in a PVP situation, as noted by previous posts. But yes, by all means USE it. It is part of the game and there for your enjoyment.

i remember owning noob falcon and titan pilots with dagger and good placed mines just because of engine kill. Just fly in, engine kill, CD on automatic and whenever you whoosh by just drop a mine =)
