Thrusting away clarification - Fletcher - 04-19-2008 Well I think if you run 5-6k away using thrusters, I think that is considered abandoning the fight. Since few/if any weapons have such a range. I try to dodge around if my shields drop, I think I held my own pretty well against a Corsair gunboat with me in a Hussar Light fighter. I try to be honorable to an extent and stay within a 2-4k area. I believe thrusting away at such a range over 6k is running. It was This is the bomber pilot in question here, I honestly don't mind it being discussed here. It was myself and Legate, vs a Bounty Hunter battleship. The Legate died. 1 bomber vs a battleship is useless. So I fell back to outside weapons range while reinforcements were on their way. Like Predator said, I was 6k away. Hoodlum, can you clarify what distance exactly constitutes as running away? Read posts 44 onwards (it became a bit of a flamefest between me and the other guys, but you can read the discussion) http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?sh...amp;hl=boosting CORE, this is what I was referring to. The same happened to me, bomber vs my gunboat. I was engaging bomber, I had a LF to help me, the bomber ran away up to 8K. I engaged the rest of the fighters, my LF died, bomber comes back to engage me. I made a report to admins, no sanction. I talked about it here, and general consensus was as long as you're within radar range, and didn't engage cruise, you're still in the fight. PS- Do you mind not attacking Gamma with your stupid battleship whenever you're online? It's getting old.. PPS- Fletcher, I was the gunboat that attacked you:PYou flew well today. Look forward to fighting you again once you get the Challenger:) Thrusting away clarification - S2000Gan - 04-20-2008 I don't see how anyone could even Thruster away. The attacker can just Thruster after them. Thrusting away clarification - Robert.Fitzgerald - 04-20-2008 Capital ships move slower, 140 speed when thrusting (battleships don't even have one) Fighters and bombers move at 200. That's how they get away. Thrusting away clarification - S2000Gan - 04-20-2008 Oh, I knew that, but I thought that you were talking about things like Fighter vs. Fighter. Thrusting away clarification - pchwang - 04-20-2008 For future reference, if you feel the necessity to post on the forums about this, don't mention the offending party's names. It's common courtesy, and it's expected of you. Thrusting away clarification - Muleo - 04-20-2008 So can anyone clarify once and for all, what constitutes running? (apart from the obvious cruise) Thrusting away clarification - Etaphreven - 04-20-2008 ' Wrote:For future reference, if you feel the necessity to post on the forums about this, don't mention the offending party's names. Heh, I wish that actually worked. No one listens, though. All the complaints I've read included the offender's name. The only thing I could do is go "Wha? Zomg *sigh* ..." Thrusting away clarification - marauder - 04-20-2008 Cruising away is fleeing. Thrusting to way outside of your opponents weapon range is fleeing. It's that simple guys. If you want to fight a caship then you need to stay within it's weapon range, which shouldn't be that hard to do since capital ship turret shots aren't that hard to dodge. If you want to fight 'realistically' then don't take on anything you aren't absolutely sure you can kill on your own. Thrusting away clarification - Jinx - 04-20-2008 i have to agree with marauder there - with the last point. - there is an attitude even among serious RPers that can only be described as a competitive attitude, but not a roleplaying one. the only, very only reason for a small ship to keep a capital ship busy is to give their people time to retreat or whatever else. - but most certainly not to attack. - when people realize that the least thing a character wants is to die - and if we assume that the stupid "respawn" thingy does not really exist, - a lot of fights could be more realistic. a fight should be the last thing to do - and survival is the primary issue of every character ( leave fundamentalists who value their life to be only worth of sacrifice ). i am a believer of such hardcore modes as in diablo 2 - one character = one death. - of course that doesn t work in freelancer. - but i try to treat my chars as much as possible as if it was like that. engage a fight only when there is a chance to win, - retreat as quickly as possible if it turns against myself. - rather fly 750.000 clicks off the map to avoid dieing. so, the appropriate action would have been to initiate cruise and retreat. |
